Cathy Freeman is expecting her first baby. 
She has passed safely through the first trimester and will break the story overnight.
She and husband James Murch, a Melbourne stock broker, are naturally thrilled.
Not so thrilling is that it appears blood screens during the pregnancy have picked up that the Sydney Olympic 400m gold medallist has contracted regular type II diabetes. This is distinct from gestational type II diabetes which can disappear following birth. 
Cathy is currently jabbing herself four times a day with insulin.
