Well today’s the day. I’m off to the gym for the contest. I’ll try to download the pics today or tomorrow. I’ve taken my spike pill this morning (i take it about 3 hours before I workout because I’ve noticed there’s a delay in my reaction, anyone else notice this with spike?) eaten a little bit (trying to keep my weight down so I don’t have to lift as much for reps; a 5-pound difference in weight means about a 10-12 pound difference in weight for repetitions on the squat and bench) and I’m gonna have a turbo tea about 30 minutes before the contest. I HATE EVERYONE OF THESE MOTHER FU#@ERS RIGHT NOW!! [ode to Michael Johnson]
Won the contest. Gonna try to post some pics later today. My numbers were:
181 Pounds [Up 5 Pounds]
9.0 % Body-Fat [7-site test; down 4.74%]
335 Squat
1.50 BW Squat [270] - 10 Reps
295 Bench (Saved energy for the rep-out by not pushing my chest too hard, I figure I’ll go for 315 in about 2-3 weeks)
1.25 BW Bench [225] - 16 Reps (It’s not 20 but I really tried saving energy in this contest. It took almost 3 hours for everyone to test in all of the lifts so I didn’t push too hard).
Neutral Grip Chin-Ups - 15 Reps
Deadlift - 315 Pounds (I only needed to do 315 to win the contest so I didn’t push from there).
With my legs exhausted, I did a 33" vert from a stand, and a 37" vert (10’11") off a step. Not bad and I’m hoping I’ll be more like 38" standing and 40-42" off a step when I actually have my legs fresh and do some vert. training.
I won $120 bucks and beat out 3 other guys (the other 2 guys in the contest didn’t even bother to test).
Starting some new training now. I’m changing my emphasis to improve my power, specifically my vertical jump. I’d like to jump 42" in the next 3 months on a standing vert and I’d like to be able to dunk with 2 hands from a stand. What’s up with the jump in rep power points? Everybody’s got a distinguished road now it seems?
Nice work speed…why did they have you do so much stuff for the contest? You do 1rm then a rep out max damn!!! Where you beat after all this stuff? Good work!
I was exhausted and was really hurting yesterday. We wanted to be thorough and fair. A lot of the participants ROM was horrible but my workout partner and I still dominated them all. Yeah, I saved energy for the rep-outs by not pushing so hard for the maxes. I think I’m ready for a 350 squat and a 315 bench press. The deadlift felt real smooth so I’m hoping for 30-40 pounds on that. Thanks for the compliments. Buenas Nachos…
Speed,
Nice job man. Its good to hear about and see videos and pics of our members in action. I think you vert was the most. impressive. 33 standing after squatting and doing other things is pretty damn good.
Quick question, for squat are you talking deep/to the floor? Cause i mean a 295 bench is fucking huge but for some reason i think your squat would be higher. espically since your 185.
I mean i’m 165lbs
My bench ive 2reped 225
but my floor sqauts 325(after 3x295 2x315 2x320)
and my cleans 225.
Or you just never pushed the sqaut that much?
Yeah, my squat has been making much more progress than my bench lately. I’m deep to the floor but not ass to grass as I still have poor mobility. My femur is right below parallel at the bottom of my squat. But I’ve only been lifting hard since January so I expect to be in the 400’s by the end of summer, while my bench strength will increase moderately over the same amount of time (possibly another 20 pounds). I also tend to rotate exercises very quickly ( sometimes no more than 3 weeks on one lift before changing ). I’m just starting to push the squat more consistently.
makes sense.
MY pb’s? Well I’ve ran 11.07 and 22.12 but that was with my old crazy coach who didn’t really beleive in much weight lifting, and who ran me into the ground a year ago. ALl my strengh gains have come with my new coach who does know what he’s doing. We havent run enuff races this year but I can garuentee i’ll have some new pb’s soon.
Been training pretty easily lately. Working on my work capacity. I’m not going to keep a log on it because the workouts bore the crap out of me anyway, but I am planning to log the program that I am putting my volleyball players through. I’ve already started with the girls who I train year round but it’s mostly prehab stuff right now. Damn season is 39 weeks long so I’m just trying to keep them all from hurting themselves in this last stretch (the season will end in may and has been non-stop since august).
