Carl Lewis - the national anthem

Carl sure can run and jump, and based on what else I’ve seen and heard, he is not the WORST singer ever.

This was my opinion until I was told about the time he sang the national anthem before a New Jersey Nets game.

(link is mp3 of the performance and some commentary)

It takes guts to carry it through like he does though.

true, but he really never did “make up for it”

I’m assuming his “anthem-singing contract” required him to finish the song before he got paid for the gig.

Or he was counting on em to boost the offer if he’d stop.

I actually downloaded a Carl Lewis song + video on to my desktop for a laugh and I swear…

It is the most hillarious thing I’ve seen on the internet.

It is more 80’s than the 1980’s !!

"If Lewis’ mid-song interjections of “Uh-oh!” and “I’ll make up for it now” don’t cheer up your Monday, start loading the gun. "

Priceless

WOW. I finally listened to it. What was he thinking?

That wasn’t so bad. He started a bit to high for his range and got caught in a bit of trouble, but it ended ok.

ooohhoo that was tough to listen to.i have often heard of this but never really heard it and now i know what the fuss was about.fair play to carl for continuing.as tom tellez would say, stick to your day job carl!!

Herb, which version were you listening to? Do you sing in the church choir? Let’s hear your rendition.

That wasn’t so bad. He started a bit to high for his range and got caught in a bit of trouble, but it ended ok.

I agree - as a matter of fact I was almost impressed by some passages… It would have been an absolutely okay performance had he just started a bit lower. It was hilarious anyway, of course. I just don’t think it proves that Carl is a talentless vocalist. Unprofessional though…? Yes!

Sorry Herb man can’t agree !!!

What I find sooo funny is whilst you guys are having a good laugh at the expense of one of the most decorated Track and field athlete’s in history… You would still probably give your left nut to do 10% of what he did as a sprinter/LJ’er.

So keep yuking it up… the joke’s on you…

I would even give as much to have Lewis’ voice…

Look, “Let’s all work together, you can’t win on your own, No…”

as Carl sais in his pop song;

“… trust one another, make a human chain,
and never break it up, break it up,
break it up,
we will never break it up, break it up, break it up!”

“cause when the aim is high, we try not to let it fall, nooOOOO”

or in Going For the Gold,

“I was only 7, got the call from heaven”

both of these songs are available at carllewis.com

goin for the gold is under fun with carl, and never break it up is in “other videos”.

ENJOY!
