Apparently it’s no longer enough to win the trials and have the ‘A’ standard! AND a lesser athlete may be selected because they’re classified as ‘development’! Does this mean once an athlete reaches his late 20s he is effectively ‘past it’?.. Good job no one told that to Allan Wells or Linford Christie!
Unfortunately, this is what happens in the UK when targets are set to improve what is percieved to be failing. Whether it is in education, health and now sport the pen pushers set unrealistic idiotic criteria or misappropriate funds.
The whole point of bureaucracy is to protect your position by rewarding friends and punishing enemies. They select whoever the hell they want and that’s about it!
