You don’t have to be fast or strong to field a ball, throw a ball, or hit a ball.
I played and coached a number of players who have moved on to play pro ball and the one thing they all had in common, was an uncommon ability to develop high rates of power (whether genetic or through training)Some of the fastest pitchers, best hitters, and best fielders I ever knew or saw did not have good speed or quickness and were not strong.I would say that is a gross over-Exaggeration, in my experience I would say the exact opposite Had they been quicker, faster and stronger, they would have probably been better. The bat, ball, running the bases, and fielding will only allow a certain level adaption to occure as the resistance is not great enough to push it forward. This will limit the rate at which an athletes skills can move forwardBut taking too much time away from skill training to work on conditioning is riskyThe time neccessary to develop needed qualities will be based on a long term athlete development model and utilize time efficiently dependent on: the level age, and skills of the athlete , especially since we’re talking about working with individuals as young as 10y.o. For athletes at that age, the athletes who stand out the most are usually those who physically mature faster than their peers (possese greater strength and power), obviously if they posses decent skillsWhat will make or break a young ball players is skill with the glove, the arm and the bat. Power is greatIn todays game it is essencial! The old days of showup and play are done!, as is quickness and speed. Those who possess Theses are physical qualities which can be improved on by all players[COLOR=“red”][/COLOR] power and speed, and who also have the skill, will be more likely to succeed. But unlike football, or even some positions in basketball (i.e. power forward) you can’t overcome a lack of skill with powerThat is also another exaggeration, as poor skills can be found at every level of baseball and it is their athletic ability that allows them to get away with it (poor throwing mechanics, bad swing) and speed. Skill domintates baseball, and that should be the focus in any young ball players training program.

Only a well designed and well rounded program will allow athletes the best opportunity to develop and advance in the game of baseball
