Asafa Powell runs world season’s lead for 100m

In a special race during the Jamaican National Junior Champs, Asafa Powell ran a world leading 9.99 +1.8 last night in Spanish Town, Jamaica, reports the Jamaican Federation’s website.
21 years-old Asafa Powell was running in an invitational 100m at the National Junior Championship at G.C. Foster College, and produced a relaxed run ahead of Winston Smith in 10.31, and Ainsley Waugh and Ryan James who both registered a time of 10.38.
Powell’s time of 9.99 was a personal best (previous -10.02 in 2003), and he has also run his 200m PB this season too - 20.10.
There were also good performances from the Juniors at the championships with Renaldo Rose winning the Under-20 100m in a personal best time of 10.33, ahead of Andre Wellington second in 10.51 and Nesta Carter 10.56.
Fifteen year old Schillonie Calvert won the women’s junior 100m in 11.44 ahead of Jodi-Ann Powell 11.58 and Tracey-Ann Rowe 11.59.
