Arron Out of Euros

PARIS, Aug 2, 2006 - France’s mercurial sprinter Christine Arron will not compete at next week’s European championships in the Swedish city of Gothenburg she announced on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old 1998 European 100 metres champion said that while her groin injury had almost completely healed she did not feel that she was sufficiently race fit to put up a good enough show.

``I have decided not to go,’’ said Arron, who has a history of choking in individual events in major championships where her undoubted immense talent has yielded aside from the European title just two bronzes in the 2005 world championships in the 100 and 200m.

``There is going to be no miracle. I have healed really quickly. My groin injury is practically cured, but it is too short a space of time from now till the championships.’’

Arron, who has fared better in championship relays garnering two 4x100m titles in the 2003 world championships and the 1998 Europeans as well as a bronze in the 2004 Olympics, has only competed in two 100m this season.
The championships run from next Monday till the following Sunday.
