arnica gel

What do ye think of arnica gel? It’s supposed to reduce swelling and promote healing after sprains and strains.has anyone had experience with it? I’m considering using it as a last resort for my hamstring tendonitis before I quit sprinting

I used it a few years ago to get rid of shin splints along with the little pills you can get and put under your tounge on a recommendation from my coach at the time. This was after icing, stretching, more rest, strengthening excercises had all failed to alleviate the problem. I was so impressed i recommended it to every athlete i ever met who was troubled with shin splints but none of them had as much success as i did.

I’ve since concluded that it was either a) a placebo effect; b) the fact that i was massaging it in where i hadn’t massaged before; or both the above. Either way the arnica didn’t do any harm and it didn’t exactly break the bank…

What else have you tried so far though cos there are more effective methods if this is your last resort. Don’t give up hope yet man!!

I agree…giving up is the easy option…Another cream I can strongly suggest is Traumeel.

It’s good stuff. Try it. Spend $5 or quit sprinting…hmmmm. Anyway, doesn’t traumeel contain arnica?

doesn’t traumeel contain arnica?

Yes, it a compositum that contains arnica montana and works better than straight arnica cream.

Never used any of these things but I also know a few people that have had success with the ointment JasonUK mentioned… “traumeel”

I agree, Traumeel works better than anything I have seen. It’s nothing even close to icy hot or bio freeze stuff. My athletes love Traumeel. I usually give them a tube for their birthday or going away present to college since no college athletes I work with has trainers who use it since it would break their budget, although its worth it.

How much do they sting you for it over there? Here in Australia it cost me the other day $25 for 50g - seems expensive?
