another ZMA Question.

If ZMA is not taken on an empty stomach and taken on full stomach will it have a significant negative impact on the results?

I have found that I don’t seem to get the full effect after eating a fair amount in the two hours before even if there’s not much calcium in what I’m eating.

However, I still think you get a large effect.

depending on what was in your last meal, the ZMA could be fighting for the same receptor site in the body, and causeing it not to work as effectivly.

deca,
good hypothesis. that is somewhere along the lines where i was thinking? anyone else have any scientific info if this can be true?

I think you can get away with 30 - 45 mins after … so long as it is a medium sized meal - but I can’t remember where I read that … but that is the rule I use as i find it hard to get enough time after the last meal at night.
Sometimes I’ll take them in the middle of the night if I wake to go to ‘strain the lizard’ and the ZMA caps are still in my daily tablet box.

Actually - just checked elsewhere -
Empty Stomach technically means -
2 hours before
1 hour after.

it all depends, liquids are brokend down faster than solid food. and calcuim intake inhibits zinc intake by 50% i think. so no dairy products before.
(the precentage is what i recall off the top of my head)

The previous poster noted that calcium has been shown to
inhibit zinc absorption by 50% and that is a true statement.
However, the phytates in grains will also significantly reduce
absorption of zinc. So, the bottom line that it is NOT a very
good idea to eat cereal with milk and then take ZMA shortly
thereafter before bedtime.

so in conclusion taking zma after eating or on a full stomach inhibits the effects of the supplement.

The consumption of protein (chicken, turkey or steak) or carbohydrate (potato, rice or pasta) food sources are fine together with ZMA. The consumption of foods high in calcium (milk and cheese) or
phytates (grains and cereals) together with ZMA is not
a good idea. Not all food consumption will inhibit the absorption
of ZMA, only certain foods such as those mentioned above.
