andrew howe

And he also jumps muuuch higher.

Look at this video of the qualif. in osaka. In the first one the penultimate is more notoriuous, he jumps sthg arround 840, then with an much timid penult. he jumps arround 815.

He is unable to complete the hitch kick in both jumps, IMHO. His legs fall too soon. His arms arent doing the work. If you are able to reach this position before landing your legs wont fall:

Howe finished his hitch at around 6m…i think he has enough time to land like pedroso, he just isnt in the right position too…pedroso keeps his body upright, where as Howe throws himself forward…

good point
he may be rushing everything

I the slow mo of the 2nd jump he seems to start his hitch kick to early, before he has really extended off the board.

so interesting that he was annoyed and frustrated during indoor nationals while he was jumping bad…but then after he was finished he said that his training wasn’t geared towards indoor nationals…lol…clealry something went wrong, and he was expected over 8 metres…but when he couldn’t do it, he had to cover it up. I do hope he gets its right outdoors though.

also about his run up - somewhere between first meet of last outdoor and Osaka, he added these skip steps at the start of his run up, i dont really understand this, he is inconsistant anyway with his run, wouldnt this make it worse?

and yes i do think he rushes everything, i went through this phase also, my first meet of indoors, i rushed the hitch and landed like Howe, then in feb i was slower in the air and landed like pedroso and jumped much further…

I think he had the same attitude with 100m last year (correct me if I am wrong…). If I don’t recall badly he tried one 100m expecting a very good time (which is certainly capable of, something below 10.10", imo) and after performing not so well he dropped the whole idea of running the 100m.

Btw, no way he is just 74kg heavy as stated in iaaf.

Great thread…

Does anyone recommend any particular resources (books/videos) on long jump?

Any of these good?

http://www.championshipproductions.com/cgi-bin/champ/c/Track-Field/Long-Jump-282.html

the system of training i use is very simular to Boo’s system…and it has worked very well for me…although i foul virtually all the time, they are really big jumps and ive improved alot in all areas…so anything from him is very good…

i know that much…

I used his teaching DVD this year and it did help. Any resources with off-season training plans etc?

I know Boo also has a jumps drill dvd.

Anyone have an example of training programs somewhere?

lol, i have many, but dont really want to post them on here…

anyway, back to Howe…

he opened with 8.10m today, so i would think he is back on target for the olympics…good job to him…

7 Irving Saladino PAN 7.92 +0.5 6

wtf??? did he foul every jump?

Dwight Phillips USA NM

i watched the meet…

he fouled the first 2…second one very questionable foul…was around 8.50m. then he JOGGED down the runway to make sure he got 3 more jumps and jumped 7.92m. then he fouled, then really bad jump, then he ran thru the pit…

a bit strange…

phillips, foul, foul, pass

Did he stutter-step coming up to the board when he jogged it? I’m wondering how got anywhere near to the board when he changed his approach speed that much.

well, im comparison to his 8.73m, he jogged…im assuming he was still running around 9.8+ mps, which is still slow…but his strides were longer and it was totally obvious what he was doing, he also looked down at the baord when he took off…very easy jump for him…

his other jumps/ run ups were just realy off, he ran thu the pit twice i think…last jump 6.73m becuase he ran thru…lol

I’m posting links to the videos on the video section.

hey DES…

Any news on Howe? i didnt start the last golden league and hasnt jumped in a while, and hasnt jumped that well so far at all…

i see he got picked for Olympic team, obviously…

whats going on with him…

I don’t know if you heard but during european cup in annency, andrew has pulled his left hamstring during 200m. he was alredy injured before the race (he didn’t explain well but during the week before he had bad
sensation on that leg and also during warmup, so not a bright decision to compete in 200m! ). so national federation
puts him on a specific recovery plan to take him fit for olimpics. I hadn’t any specific news, only those from site of national track and
field federation. he had 2 weeks of low intensity training and also a
lot of therapies in Coni’s sport medical clinic, Acquacetosa, and now he should be at full engine from a week, but national
stuff has decided to put him out competition till some minor race test
some day before start of olimpic adventure.

oh, damn…thanks alot mate…so did he pull up, cuz i saw he ran 20.7 in that race…
