What is the best alternative to fish oil? I cannot take it because I am allergic to all fish. Right now most of my fat comes from almonds, cottage cheese, eggs, cytosport muscle milk, and olive oil. I currently take ZMA, multi-vit, and Vit.C. My budget is unlimited.
My budget is unlimited.
by far the best fish oil substitude is you buying me a ferrari.
seriously, cottage chesse for polyunsaturates? no, no. Its dairy fat, not good. Have you tried natural penut butter? theres is another thing here in greece we call it “ταχινι” that is tachini (ta as in distance, chi as in…shit i dont know, well name doesnt matter) its semolina “pulp” unsweetend obviously, its nutritional info is prety good
per 100grams 670kcal, 28gr protein, 4.6gr carbs, 50gr unsaturated (of which 24 poly unsaturated) fat and 7 gr saturated fat.
tastes kind of natural penut butter but its naturaly more “Sticky” to the taste and less adhesive.
well i like it
(p.s found it, ch as in adhesive, ini as in initiative lol)
Flaxseed oil? Not sure if it’s an exact substitute for fish oil, but good nevertheless!
hope it helps!
just a thought, google up “omega 3” sources. I know there’s more than fish.
Now Foods has max EPA caps and I’m sure other companies do the aswell. I have client take flaxseed oil with these caps and we seem to be covering the bases.
Hope that helps…
Walnuts are also a good source of Omega 3 if they are not rancid and kept fresh. I also think pumpkin seeds are a good source as is Flax of course.
Some Oatmeal in the morning with ground up flax seeds (use coffee grinder), walnuts, sunflower seeds (for Omega 6), protein powder and a little honey and cinnamon is a great breakfast chalk full of EFA’s!
Hmm. Fish oil is the only type of oil that I know that have significant amount of EPA/DHA. The conversion from LA into EPA/DHA is varies person to person and I’m not sure if you’d get enough EPA/DHA out of it to see any difference. Most guys hates the taste of regular flax seed oil but my favorite is Spectrum brand with cinammon flavor. It makes it MUCH more bearable for me to take flaxseed oil by mouth. The capsules aren’t very practical because you’d have to take 15 capsules (1g per capsule) which equal to 1 tablespoon (15g). Getting some GLA from borage or primose evening will help too. I think most of us are lacking in that area unless someone is taking Udo’s choice (yuk).
What kind of reaction do you get from consuming fish? I don’t recall of anyone ever being allergic to fish. Interesting…
Ltruett - anaphylaxis. What’s even more interesting as I read this is that I usually get a mild reaction from eating milled flax seed, and twice I went into full blown shock from eating fish on one occasion and then walnuts on the other. Perhaps I have some allergy to omega-3’s? I will do more research…
Epote - I don’t know what you’re talking about but I found a product in a market called “Fage” authentic greek yogurt. It’s low in carbs, tastes great, and it’s all natural (only Milk, cream, and yogurt cultures.) I highly recommend it.
Fish do not make their omega-3s they only carry them, fish get their omega-3s from eating algae and plankton. Farmed fish have to be fed omega-3s other wise they wouldn’t grow. you can buy algae and their are many types.
omega-3s are better than Jacks magic beans!
you are better off being allergic to fish with all that bioacculmalation of mercury and other chemicals, I have got that much mercury inside me from eating fish am 6ft 5in in the summer and only 5ft 5ins in the winter. ha ha!
don’t forget LNA!!!
