Achilles tendon question

Regarding the study (or studies) proving the effectiveness of eccentric calf raises for treatment of achilles tendonitis, were the 15 in the “eccentric” group still running during the 12 week period, or completely off from training? Is this right or is it more like wait a week or two for suymtoooms to die down somewhat, then start back up and continue with the eccentric work? Thanks.
