oh alright, good shot man
I’d like to hear more about that, too. I have no degree in Biomechanics, but it is so obvious that Asafa runs very different from ANY other top class sprinter I know and I wonder why there wasn’t more discussion about it (it was mentioned by kenny and quick).
What I mean is: his knee never moves that far behind his CG, he brings his leg forward faster after hitting the ground - almost like when you do knee-lifts.
All the other sprinters swing the leg further back, therefore allowing the knee go to (or closer to) 180 deg.
When the knee moves forward Asafas heel does not come that close to his butt and the lower leg stays closer to parallel (!) to the ground instead of his claves touching the hams(sg. you only want to do during your first accelerating strides).
All things you see usually amongst beginners…but the guy ran WR!
First thought: lack of hip flexibility. Another thought: we heared he does a lot of knee lift drills over longer distances.
Anyhow I do not think it is sg. one should try to copy…but I’d really like to know what experienced coaches have to say about that.
I believe what Charlie is saying is that when you are producing that much vertical force…
The extension happens in a more vertical manner in relation to the hips and the ground. When someone is running a 200m, if you slow it down, you’ll see the extension much easier because they aren’t coming off the ground as much. Gravity is affecting them a lot more since they are most likely fatigued.
I think you might be more accustomed to the extension that occurs in most people where it is more backside.
Maybe i’m wrong here, but it seems to me that the more backside extension you have, the lower your COM actually is…
It seems to me like Asafa gets into fully extension just when the foot hits under his hips,so I don´t think he´s loosing full extension :o
