Nice final, but we know some of these teams could do so much more. USA’s team should be under 37 with no problem with the runners they had … Gatlin’s leg was horrible, received poorly, lost ground to the Nigerian then his pass with Miller was also horrible. Giraffe man’s first leg is awesome, it’s like he’s running against some high schoolers in the lanes around him, he runs all over the poor Polish guy … yet in the end they’re barely half a second ahead of Poland and their smooth passing with guys that “barely” have 10.30 or 10.40 100m. Coby Miller cracks me up though, his legs are so big it looks like he’s going to knock out the guys on either side of him!
Yea Crawford can burn in the corner… I just don’t understand why they don’t have him runnign 3rd because he has the highest top end spee din the world and his starts are always questionable
Between Gatlin and Crawford they had sixteen rounds of individual races before the relay. 9 races each in seven days is unreal! Plus their silver shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering they're usual shitty exchanges.
Agreed! Nice final though. A great finish by Maurice Greene to come scandalously close to Mark Lewis-Francis!
just read a quote from mlf that maurice came over and shook his hand…mlf then said he thought that was a sign of weekness…does mlf not realise he got ran down and just won? what a wanker!!
Green should have been 1st and Crawford last. I didn’t think Green had such a good top speed. It was very impressive the way he caught up to mlf.
Certainly the “situation” with John Capel didn’t assist in the decision making. Not that he would have run in the final anyway, but he may have been the better option to lead off (given an outstanding performance in the heat) and allow for what you suggested.
Perhaps it’s understandable if MLF is confused, unaccustomed as he is to being in finals. anything can, and usually does happen in relays. That’s why they are critical to any real sprint program. but, if you luck out, be cool, thank your lucky stars, and STFU!
That’s what was so great about Ben. His demeanor during and after events seemed so consistent and mature.
Where did he say that st george ?
Thats pretty out of order if he did - great race tho - I nearly blew a tonsil. Just goes to show what a lottery finals can be - 2 walking wounded and 2 out of form sprinters kept their nerve gave it their best and got lucky.
Made my week.
Oh how sweet it is to beat the US.
Charlie - I hope you were standing for your Queen during the medal ceremony
Did anyone else time that anchor leg from Greene? I had it at 9.07s…
Congratulations for Britain,
they got gold even without the fast sprinter,
Dwain must be very happy now
Well, you can’t make a world record with your mouth - not even gold.
The result really made me laugh after all the big talk.
And I can’t see the big catch-up done by Mo: If you look at the positions at 100m to start and 90m to start MLF was never more than 1 yard in front.
Look a the pics:
yes looks close but more lika a metre maybe metre and a half…
Hey! I’m straight! (in case you hadn’t noticed)
I’ve seen the video from four differnet angles. When they hit the straight (not the curve) Aliu has half a step on Maurice and MLF has about 2-3 steps on Aliu. Remember they are entering the straight away from the inside lanes (Nigeria and GB) with MLF being 2 lanes removed and having received the stick noticably before Greene. Review it again at regular speed and slow-mo. Or better yet, time each of the legs and see which is faster. It appears that a significant enough rundown occurred.
Perhaps Mark should be cool else he labeled as showing “signs of weakness” for not making the 100m finals (10.28) and then talking sh#@ later.
Do we have any splits available for the relays
You have to admit though it was a good race. I enjoyed watching it. Also anyone get the chance to run splits on the race, I would but my stop watch is busted.
