^^ Wallace Spearmon 10.18 in that race too, nice to see him running fast again.
Wow, times were amazing.
Beginning of the season and people are on fire.
Keep in mind that Justin Gatlin, Torri Bowie, and Allyson Felix have all run or tied their 100m PRs in Doha, and I believe Schippers missed hers by 0.02. Drawing conclusions about improving from this over the rest of the season would be dangerous.
Dangerous?
Don’t forget that it’s early stage of the season.
It doesn’t mean that improvements will occur during the next two/three meets but it’s more than possible in the further stages of the season it will/ should happen.
Nice runs.
Speaking of dangerous - Asafa Powell is scheduled to run the 200m tonight at the Jamaican IWC. Considering the groin problems in recent years, and the injuries he has previously had in 200m races, does this strike anyone else as unwise? Obviously we don’t know the specifics of Powell’s condition/injuries, but from the outside, I’m cringing as a fan of the man.
he will run the curve then cut it off and jog. never seen him run a 200 all out
It’s the curve that’s the problem!
Maybe he should do what Bolt told Blake to do before the 19.26, which was to jog the curve and hammer the straight.
BTW, Andre de Grasse is also running the 200 in the Jamaica IWC.
it would probably be a new pr for him if he did that

So Asafa runs indoor 60s and now opens with a 200. hopefully looks good for a complete 100. He is one of my favourites.
Did anyone else think he looked like he was hobbling around the 140-130m mark? Either some sort of cramp or a very strange way of running the turn. He is clearly not in shape to finish strongly in a 200m race atm.
He may have been perilously close to a lane violation. People carrying a lot of speed that go out hard from the start sometimes end up stepping on/over the line on the outside of the lane. This is not a DQ situation unless you impede another runner in the outside lane (different from stepping on the inside line). But in this case (0:37-38 in the video) there WAS someone there, and stepping on/over the line and impeding that person WOULD be a DQ. He may have had to back off or sharply change his attack angle. This appears to be the best he’s done in a 200 since 2010 and I think he can go faster with a better distribution of energy. Is he a threat to Bolt, Gatlin, Blake, de Grasse, or even Ameer Webb now? No, but he has run sub-20 in the past.
Great observation. Especially at the Majors where PBs are a rarity (as most athletes are in way over their heads there) usually only done by the elite of the elite who can’t seem to get it wrong.
*in the Final at least- no matter how great the conditions are-wind, track, temp. etc.
Felix did beat her time there at the OLY later that year but needed a little more wind to get there. She always saves her best for the Final.
Let’s see how Bowie, Schippers and Thompson respond/execute when they are getting left behind all the way to the 50m mark and are behind about a tenth or more.
Andre had his PB in the final
