This is the most competitive field at NCAA’s I’ve ever seen. I mean 10.08 is the SLOWEST qualifier!! You guys need to watch this, there are free live streams of the entire meet on PAC 12 network and ESPN3. The final is on Friday and it will be interesting to see who has the most left in the tank, since 6 of the 8 finalists have to run the 200m tomorrow.

Not to mention the women. A bunch of 10.9x-11.0x. You basically need to destroy the A standard to make finals.
Eugene track isn’t fast, right?

3.0 m/s winds might be helping a bit.

Wind readings are and always have been a joke. The depth of talent in the NCAA is devastating these days especially in sprints.

The winds are helping, but still if you go by the standard conversion, all 8 finalists are 10.12 guys or faster. 2 of them already have wind-legal sub 10’s under their belts and the majority of the field has a legal 10.0X clocking. The competition these days really is insane. I tend to side with mortac’s opinion on wind readings as well. In reality, it is impossible to quantify exactly how much the wind assists the runners during a race because its wind. It blows at random times in random directions and is not the same in all lanes. When you also consider that the wind gauges are sometimes faulty and improperly used, it’s better to consider the wind reading as more of a general guideline when considering performances.

Does anyone have a statistic regarding where most of these finalists end up training wise post graduation?
I know some continue to run but does anyone know for sure?
My sense is replicating the college experience post graduation becomes difficult and one of the biggest assets to competing in the NCAA is having enough competitions to run yourself into shape.

Many of them stay with their college to train. A lot go to john smith or kersee or some of the other usual places. I think Nike gives you a coach if you sign with them. I’ve been told. I can’t verify it,but I was told you sign and part of the deal a shoe deal sets you up with a Brooks Johnson or someone like that and it’s part of contract rules
