16 y/o girl basketball player running on heels

I have a 16 y/o who doesnt run on the balls of her feet. after about 5 meters she seems to strike with the heel.

i need help correcting this please. she has pretty good strength, jumps well, and has pretty good arm mechanics, but im going crazy with those feet.

would single leg hops transitioning into a sprint help?

thank you

joe

Overstriding? If she is purposefully trying to over reach she’ll cause a braking action, causing to run on the heel in front of the hip.

What kind of drills are you using? What are her current strength numbers like? What is her training program looking like currently? How often is she playing ball per week? Lots of variables to consider…

overstriding may be the problem.

she plays ball on an a team on the weekends with a couple of practices a week.

day one strength is:

stair jumps(double and single)
vertimax
bench max 125
one arm db squat 30 x6
low rows
leg curl
hyperextensions

day two strength is :
1 set javoric complex
power snatch 65-75 5 reps
pullups
trap bar deadlifts 160 8repsmax usually 5 reps
bulgarian split squats 55 x 5 reps
low back work

drills are a skips, calf to ham kicks(buttkicks)

hope this provides more insight,

thanks for the response

any more thoughts please?

As one of my mentors would say: “Coach, sometimes you gotta just tell them to cut that shit out.”

This may seem incredibly obvious but I would either tell her to stay on the balls of her feet and/or get her sprint spikes (no heel) that facilitate such a foot contact. Running in bball shoes (or running shoes or distance/mid-distance spikes) will prompt a different footstrike than pure sprint spikes.
