It’s U of T.
Right down the street from me.
Jcc why didn’t you tell us you were coming to To?
I am representing the red black and gold… not blue!!
Ran at a meet today. Had the crappiest practice yesterday as we tried to sharpen the blade. Going over 42’s out of blocks for the first time, could not for the sake of my life get a single okay rep. I told coach it was going to be much better tomorrow. It was. I got the competitive juices flowing and I was not scared at all for the higher hurdles. Again its the same thing everyone’s touched upon in this thread: there is no need to practice at competition height/spacing in practice because the adrenaline will make up for it.
Technically could have been better, but I thought my speed in between wasn’t bad… wasn’t bad.

Anything particular comes to mind? I am the one farthest away from the camera. Time was 8.42s.
Also saw a familiar name in the stadium’s university records:p

I apologize for not breaking the code but where the heck are you?
Please send me a note and let’s connect.
If you have come all the way from the west coast and are now in our province the least we could do is sit down and discuss what has been going on for you.
best,
ange

One of today’s reps. Trying to create speed through extreme relaxation in between hurdles. First four steps look like they are ripping back on the track. Racing this weekend, looking forward to starting the season now.
That looks pretty good jcc. Where is the meet this weekend? And where and when are OUAA’s this year?
How have you been feeling?
Ange,
OUAs are at York University. I’m sure you will grace us with your presence there. CIS nationals are a month later in March at Windsor.
Feeling awesome. Every stride I do now involves me running over the ground instead of on it. I’m flying. The bodyweight circuits and the long ritual of warm ups which act as strength endurance have really helped me get into the lauded “sprint position”. And physiologically speaking I have never looked better. I have put on weight as indicated by the scale but my body feels stronger and looks leaner than ever. I am weighing in at 183-184lbs right now as opposed to ~179 about a month ago. Preparation has been long and hard but now I believe now I am ready to execute well and make some noise.
Feb 27th and 28th are the OUAA’s Track and Field Championships.
The Can Am track meet in Windsor is a great place to run as that track is fast. You will like running there.
Sounds like Jason is doing a good job and so are you.
Keep us posted.

It was a very nice track.
First meet under the bright lights also whipped my arms against the person on my right many times and with just two hurdle workouts in the past month… I’ll take it!
Lots more to do… there are some fast guys out there!
Good job and thanks for posting your run.
It’s hard to see too well in this one but your start was good and you looked good to the first hurdle. You were right in there with everyone else. Is that what you felt too?
The guy in lane 6 popped up after the set. Did that distract you or did you even notice that?
I was wondering if once you started if you got up too fast or not?
That was a very nice level of competition for you.
Do you have the link for the full results?
The only thing that jumps out for me is your arms. It seems like you are trying too hard to fling your arms .
You were not doing this in the race in Windsor and you looked better during your race than in this run I thought.

I am the one in red. Overall, a meet. My team as a whole didn’t accomplish what we were prepared to. A female hurdler was DQ’d for a questionable false start, brought back into the race too only be booted out again. It was a tad more benevolent in its treatment towards me. There was just not enough time for me to get some quick hurdle run throughs. Also my ankle is a little bugged from possibly running with too high of an intensity on the indoor curves and it was exacerbated by my prelim race. In conjunction, I developed very quickly a knee pain which persisted only temporarily. I could not do a stride with those impairments. As for my race, I demonstrated a crappy start as always. It is something that needs to be worked on. Coach said that my second hurdle in the heats was terrible. His made a penetrating comparison to the hurdling of a multi eventer in high school. My next three hurdles looks fantastic on camera I have to say though. If I put together a good start and I can do what I did in those last three hurdles, I’m looking for a good time.
Bad barrel + bad apple makes a very hungry man though. Have to be more precise in practice and make sure to get a good warm up.
My advice is to try to establish contact with the hurdle on the first move out of blocks, shoulders forward, it looks like your hips getting away while you are accelerating.
Get the mechanics of the start right and then transfer it to the hurdles.
You are at the transition year from u20 to senior, so might be bit challenging.
One of my hurdlers is at the same situation, transition.
Can you expand on this wermouth??
What the hell Jcc. You looked good. Let’s go through it.
Your start was not bad. You did pop up more in this race than the one at u of T but that is not a big fix at all. So you are a bit incosistent and that is natural at the stage you are in. All you are looking to do in the start is work on getting more confident and don’t doubt yourself. From what I could see you look comfortable in the blocks and you are don’t seem too squished or bunched up and that’s good. I’d have to take a closer look and who ever was filming (say thank you to who ever that is because it’s so cool to have this footage) kinda missed all of you in the start postition but the site version shows you better than the You tube channel for some reason.
The pop up thing means you are a bit anxious … so what. Just relax and repeat what has been going well.
As for the rest of the race you were right there. The only reason the western person edged you is he leaned in more effectively than you. He only had you by 2 100’s. So what. sucks but you had him. Watch the race and see what I mean as you go into the line. Next time make sure you are upright and chest out first and be there to win. I am not saying you were not but this message you left above makes it sound like something went wrong. You have no control over someone false starting out. That rule is retarded by the way and makes no sense what so ever. The rule was made for TV production and the Olympics. It has no place in high school or University sports where one hopes to develop athletes and give people there best shot. It’s a typical rule that is not made to help athletes in my opinion. You have to practice that drill I showed you with your arms. I know it seems awkward but it really does work. Stand in front of a mirror and mimic what your arms are supposed to be like. You will get it eventually. Great job.
That was a lot of fun to meet you Jcc. I posted the photo on facebook.
YOur job is not to concern yourself with the entire team. That would be your coaches job. You go do your thing and it seems to me you are doing that.
Why was there not enough time to do some hurdle run throughs? This can be a lesson. Always give yourself a lot of time just in case. Get your warm up done, make sure you don’t put yourself in the position to rush anything and then if you need to , you are ready and you can keep warm and wait. Always try to put yourself in the position to be as organized as possible.
If your ankles are bothering you due to the indoor curves than mention this to your coach and perhaps doing the runs on the straight away are an option? Was this from training or competition?
As for the knee pain, sometimes heightened nerves will elevate the feeling of small things temporarily. If your knees are bothering you and you feel tight make sure you are doing some epson salt baths or try to do some contrast showers if that is possible?
When you start, try to establish visual contact with the hurdle it can base or top of the hurdle, it’s up to you, it’s very important, right now you are popping your head up and getting yourself to ineffective position, I am suggesting to my hurdlers to look at the hurdle with the head down and then smoothly come up, to have their body up right 3 steps before take off with slight lean forwar. Just like J.Smith said "if you are pilot of the passenger plane, how you are going to take off without interrupting passengers on the board?
On top of that I see that you are developing posterior hip rotation while accelerating, this is what I meant when I said that your hips are getting away, hip needs to be more neutral. One of my youngsters had this problem. We did basic 20m accelerations, they were slow enough so he could fully control the posture having said that they were fast enough to have ok angles.
