Today was snowing again…I thought we’re in March…
So my partner and I did not go outside, but decided to do a stadium stair workout.
We did it in the basketball arena, where you go upstairs to the balcony seating, then up the seats there, then down the seats, then up the seats, then down the seats, and then back down to the arena floor on the other side from where we started; then stride back to the beginning and do the same thing again.
We did 10 sets of those (non stop), where we went up double stairs for ever other set.
That was pretty tiring… My partner’s in better shape - he was ahead half a set by the end of the whole thing.
Then we rested for 10min and did it again for 4 sets this time. 4 sets took us 4 minutes.
Tomorrow is team practice, which makes me a little nervous and anxious to see what my times are like…
And then I have to be careful, because we’re running on the 165m indoor track, and the sharp turns could be hard on my foot. If I feel anything, I’ll try the outer lane…
I suppose I’m in decent shape, but I’m not where I want to be two and a half weeks before my first outdoor meet.
Today’s workout was 400-200-200-400-200-200 with about 200m walk recovery in between.
I was running in the second or third lane, so I was running a bit more (165m track). My times were:
400: 72sec
200: 33sec
200: 34sec
400: 77sec (oooh boy)
200: 35sec
200: 33sec
It felt kinda weird running and hard to get my legs up. I was pretty dead afterwards (still am ).
The foot gave me no problems. Just a new blister on my pinky toe…
Today’s practice was jumping circuits (man…I love that stuff… )
What we did, was we jog 200m and then start doing the circuits where you have about 5 different stations:
agility ladder
hurdle hop - box jump - hurdle hop
4 standing long jumps from cone to cone
3 upside down hudle hops
jump over box - 2 shorder hurdle hops
about 10 power hurdles: first time right leg, then left, then two leg hops
5 sit ups - 5 push ups
jog 200m and repeat set
We did about 7 sets all together…not sure though - we weren’t counting.
The foot was fine Although it doesn’t feel 100%, it’s not giving me any problems at all. It feels like 95%. Getting there…
I’m trying to get some of my endurance back, so I also went on a 4 mile jog/run with some distance people. It wasn’t bad at all.
I’m just so glad to be back to practices healthy and the weather is getting better too
I don’t know how accurate the distances were, but 220s were about 35-36 sec (those seemed sooo long…), 140s were 21sec and 80s were 10-11
My blisters are bad and they bleed a lot…my sock was pretty red after the workout. Any ideas how to prevent them, or rather make better the ones I already have??? I get them on my right foot, on the pinky toe and the inside, where the big toe ends.
I was planning on going on a 3 mile jog on Saturday as the week’s cool down and then recover Sunday, but I started jogging on Saturday, the weather was freezing, my legs were tight and painful, and i just stopped and walked back.
So i did a second attempt today and it was all right, my conditioning seems fine, it’s just that the right side of my right lower leg gets tight after a while, and i think it’s because my right foot needs to get stronger, because it’s been walking on its heal for 6 weeks and now that i run on my toes again, it must have gotten a shock! Yeah…that must be it!
After my run I did some drills and called it a week
Get some proper shoes or insoles for your feet. Something is not working right if you’re getting blisters so bad they bleed.
Good workout, 3x80m. in 10 secs after all the other stuff is damn good for a female sprinter, and you’re not even in shape yet! You should be able to smoke the 12 second barrier when you get faster!
I’m not quite sure about that 12 second barrier! Maybe there was some mistake in those 80m sprints…but seriously, I have no clue! The last time I competed was last May, so I have no idea where I’m at right now…especially after that injury.
Today was all hurdles…it’s my first time hurdling, and I’d like to try it in my second outdoor meet maybe (400 hurdles) or later…depending how it feels. So I practiced hurdles in the morning with the coach, then I took two home and practiced in my back yard, and then practiced some more in the afternoon with my coach again (we’re in spring break ). At the end of the afternoon session I also did a 600m to pace a teammate who was doing 4 of those. I ran it in about 1:57, pretty comfortably. After about a minute and a half I went over two hurdles (about 75m) to see how the 400h might feel… didn’t feel that bad at all… but I suppose it’s different in a race…
Tomorrow morning I’m working on long jump I love long jump (no experience there either, but I’ve been practicing a bit more than hurdles).
Ok, so here’s the thing: This morning with my coach we decided to drop the hurdles …jumping just comes a lot more natural to me, and since I don’t have much time to train, hurdles are out of the story (no significant time wasted either - I only trained for them one day…all day ).
I am definetely long jumping in the meet. Triple, I’m not sure yet, because it’s extremely new to me…we’ll see how the training goes.
Then I’m assuming I’m doing an open 400 since I always run that, and I’ll be a leg in the 44, unless we decide not to run it. Then there’s the 41, but i’ll find out about that next week… If we cancel the relays, I also see myself running an open 200.
So pretty much, I’m all over the place and have no clue what exactly I’ll be doing .
I’ll find out next week, when we do the entries
Today in jumping practice I practiced with the spring board, oooooh so much fun! Then I went to the weight room, with an emphasis on single leg exercises, since I have to strengthen my left leg, which has always been weaker, if I’m planning to triple jump.
I wanted to do some sort of running workout too, if I’m planning to be running good 4’s, but it started snowing, so after about 4 hours I went on the treadmill for 25min (5min @ 7mph, 20min @ 8mph). It felt good, considering I haven’t done this a while - I was going for 30min, but I felt pretty out of breath at 25 and called it a day
Hurldle hops, 6 in a row, about 6 sets
these seem easier than when i was doing them two weeks ago
Then I did some long jumping full aproaches (for my first time). It feels weird. I feel that I’m going way too fast by the time I hit the board, and then it’s harder to pop up and get some vertical height.
My ankle also feels a little weak, and I got an ankle support to see if that feels any better.
Then I did 6*165m with a teammate, untimed. I got pretty tired from that…I need to start running a little more. Tomorrow’s a 400m workout…yiaiiix
Practice yesterday got cancelled due to snow, so no 400m workout after all… I went on a 4.5 mile jog instead and it felt pretty good, although the water in my stomach was making noizes all through the way and the food that I had 3 hours earlier felt uncomfortable. I’d rather run on an empty stomach…
It was so hard to motivate myself to run today, without a coach or a fellow teammate (organized practices start next Monday again), but I went out and did 10 * 200m repeats (jog 200m between). I did them on the road since there’s snow on the track, so the distance was estimated, maybe it was less than 200m (about 3 telephone poles), so I didn’t even bother timing myself.
I know I could have pushed myself harder, but I still got quite a workout…
Today was a very good workout: hills and I had a partner too.
The hill was about 70m long, not too steep, and we did 12 reps, walk down, and a short break half way through. It felt really good. I actually felt like I’m in good shape I think it’s the longer stuff that I can’t quite handle yet, but that’s gonna be Monday’s workout.
Then we hit the weight room. I did some single leg press, flat shoulder press, flat db press, bisept curls, leg extensions, and then abbs and some back extensions.
Tomorrow’s off.
5 * 6 hurdle hops
5 * short long jump approaches with spring board
3 * 165m
Hurdle hops seem so much easier than the first time I ever did them. Soon I might be able to raise them up a notch.
I’m such an amateur in long jumping…although I seem to have potential, my technique is kinda shady. Gotta work on that.
The first two 165s were at 23 seconds and the third at about 24-25. I still don’t feel in very good shape; my heard was racing like crazy after the first one.
On Saturday’s meet I’m long jumping and running the 200m. The 400m still have to wait, my coach and I don’t think I’m ready for it quite yet. I know I’m nowhere near my top shape even to run the 200m, but I gotta start from running something… Doing the long jump for the first time should be rather interesting as well
Thanks
My 200 last year was 27 something…not very proud of it - hopefully I’ve improved this season.
Today’s workout:
6 * 6 hurdle hops
5 single leg bounding (each) landing on the matt (3 bounds to get there)
5 alternate leg bounding, landing on the matt
about 5 long jump run throughs to figure out marks
Wow…was today tiring
7 * 300m with 150min walk recovery. I haven’t done conditioning like that in quite a while.
Don’t remember exactly my times, but this is about what I did:
50 sec
53 sec
54 sec
55 sec
58 sec
57 sec
54 sec
Kinda all over the place, huh? But overall I’m pleased about it, considering I felt pretty tired from yesterday right from the beginning.
The meet went well. I checked my PR in the 200 from last year, and it was 27.9something. Today I ran a 27.65. Yes, PR, but I’m never happy with my 2’s…I just think I’m more of a 400m runner. Every time I finish a 200, I don’t feel I’ve gone as fast as I could and I’m not all that tired afterwards either…
The sprint medley was great for the first three legs (200-200-400). We held second place throughout, and then our 800 leg fell behind. My 400 felt really good, but my coach didn’t get my split… :o …oh well.
I’m not even gonna discuss the long jump. The event started at 10am, we got there at 9:55, and I was first flight, so basically I didn’t have a mark and I wasn’t warmed up at all. I fouled two of them. It was a very frustrating first time experience…
But running-wise, I was glad to feel strong and quite conditioned, considering my injury. Next meet next Saturday.
