Beijing Olympics silver medallist Sally Pearson has fine-tuned her preparations for next weekend’s Diamond League athletics meet in New York with a string of victories on the Gold Coast.

Pearson - who finished second in the 100m hurdles at the 2008 Olympics racing under her maiden name of Sally McLellan - won her pet event on Saturday and Sunday in the Gold Coast winter series meet.

She clocked winning times of 13.08 and 12.97 seconds, with WA’s Shannon McCann second on both occasions.

Pearson also won the 100m flat race in 11.41 at the Gold Coast City athletics track ahead of NSW runner Laura Whaler (11.69).

After missing most of the Australian domestic summer season due to injury, Pearson is now building towards October’s Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where she plans to contest the 100m hurdles and 200m.

Great opener. I wonder why she chose not to retail her maiden name, at least in part. I follow the sport pretty closely and my first impression when I first saw an article was “Sally who?”. It’s a shame for her to waste the name recognition that she has earned.
