Planning for the Pro Football Combine returns!

On the subject of core work for football, I have also torn a muscle in my side, and also on returns! (maybe we should give up as return men xlr8!!)

Since then I have been working out with med balls and physio balls, and I have noticed a big difference in my rotational strength, and flexibility! I play WR, and I have became much more proficient at twisting to catch underthrown balls since doing these exercises.

On another point, maybe im just being stupid, but can someone explain what the 3-1-3 phase, or cycle is. Thanks.

‘3-1-3’ details the MaxStrength cycle. 3 weeks on, 1 week easy, 3 weeks on again. To prevent CNS burnout and / or plateauing, an athlete will move to a different cycle after this 7 week cycle. Length of such a cycle can vary, though. Bompa recommends 12 weeks as the absolute longest duration of such a phase.

Keep the streak alive! I also LOVE playing on special teams! I have scored on a kick and punt return every season for the last three seasons. So two more seasons to catch up with you. Heres hoping we both score this year! (two games down, and no score yet for me!!)

Not a chance! It is way to much fun to run by the entire defense, plus I have to keep up my streak…5 consecutive seasons with at least one kick return for a touchdown.

Hey Rupert, there is some weirdness with this (and other) threads. The summary says that I was the last to post, but my last post, which I posted last night, is missing. Any way of recovering it?

What do you use to base the volume of your tempo sessions on. Also is their a particular range of volume you typically shoot for in your tempo workouts.

What position, level, and age?

I do tempo pretty instinctively. Generally I figure that I will go no higher than 2000m per session, but I have found practically that for me about 1500m per session is about right. My understanding is that the idea is to get your heart rate up to facilitate development of work capacity and to get the blood flowing to facilitate recovery. If I find that I’m feeling more tired the day after tempo, then I look to reduce the volume or intensity a bit the next time.

Charlie probably has better guidelines, but this seems to work for me.

Thanks

What leagues will be represented at the combine. Also how old are you and were have you played previously.

I just got back from the combines. I’ll give a more complete run down later, but the bottom line is that I came out as the top rated running back!

Awesome! Congratulations!

Congratulations xlr8! Glad to see that your hard work and wise planning has thus far paid off.

Congratulations X!!!
Very happy for you man - hard work is paying off!!!

xlr8, excellent job at the combine, your postings has been an incredible addition to this site. Have you ever considered the arena league? I know the pay is awful and no insurance, but a good way for exposure. A couple of players locally I know from small schools got a second chance through that league.

Congrats!!! That is GREAT news!!

Cheers,
Chris

We’ll see who calls and I’ll talk with anyone who is interested but I’m not sure I could afford the pay cut!

How did you do? what were your results?

thanks
Chris
