Everyone who journeyed from Daegu to Rieti would have lost a bit through travel, time zone differences and changes in climate and environment, plus the come-down from the world championships. Makes David Rudisha’s 800m time arguably superior to his own world record of last year!

Speaking of time zones and adjustments, have you found that it is common with most athletes to have a lot more trouble adjusting when moving from West to East, rather than the opposite direction?
This is always the issue with my friend who ran the 3000steeple for Greece (Eirini Kokkinariou).
