That quote could have been said by Lagat, you know. And that’s what I don’t get: They all knew what El Guerrouj did to Bekele in the 5000, so here’s the guy that El Guerrouj barely outkicked, who just ran the last 400 of his 1500 is something like 52…but they also know that he had just run heats of the 1500 plus the 5000 semi in the Osaka heat. So what did they do? They set the race up perfectly for Lagat, as if he brought his own rabbit.
As an American I’m very happy with the result, but didn’t anybody except Lagat want to win?
hey i was thinking yesterday, during training, about the Mens 800m! seems, tactic wise, it might have been a awsome tactic on behalf of the guys, aka, what normally happens from 600m onwards on a fast pace? people start to fatigue and the strength of that russian “Yuriy” comes into its own and he passess everybody. So, slow it down, keep your legs strong, so when 600m comes, you can still hold Yuriy off. And it worked, Yuriy came 3rd.
strength of yuriy? His strength is his speed - not his endurance. I heard from the commentators that he’s appearently out-of-form and for him, he sure did look it. A fully-fit Yuriy would have won going away with plenty of kick to spare.
and whats up with the 800 mens winner, Yego? I’ve never, ever, in my whole life, seen anyone who looks less athletic then him - including 96 year-old frail granny’s. Well actually, his shoulder structure reminded me of 96 year-old frail granny’s…
The strength of Yuiy, is coming of a decient fast pace 600m, then outblasting them in the final 200m, it Appears like a sprint finnish, but, its just a case of he is not slowing down near as much as the other guys. Hence, looking like he is sprinting. That takes a lot of strength.
