Old video 1995

The reason I wrote this is b/c that year there were so many surprises.
Freak Bench Pressing incident close to the games
Easy 80m sprint but tying his PB at that distance hand timed.
crazy 200m times in practice also close to the games hand timed.
Huge jump in performance at least to 80m (splits) Seoul vs. Rome

Ben could care less about the 200M and there was no prestige and certainly no money (huge Pay cut in fact).

Just wondering if he would gave it a go what he would do lol

I wanted no part of the 400m but one day in practice I ran a super super easy 200m at 22.0 sec. and felt like running all the way to 400m it was so easy. I told the coach and I also said to him that the only reason I didn’t is bc I would have probably done it for nothing bc he would have more than likely stopped the clock. Lost the moment. What might have been lol

And who could forget Bolt in 2008 (pre WR 5/31) who for years now wanted to race the 100m so badly (DESIRE) and finally had his chance.
Slow R/T to a Fast gun…eating up ground to about the 65M or so…easing in for a safe landing at 9.92.

PPL can think whatever they want about many of the BS times at POS but Bolt made easy work of this field.

I can’t find Michael Johnson’s 1st round 200M in 19.89 at the 2000 OLY Trials where he was challenged to about the 190 mark or so by Capel.
Anyone?
I have it on tape somewhere in the closet but I don’t want to look for it just yet.

Here is Carl Lewis-

Making a statement/sending a message in the first Rd for an older athlete…not as easy to bounce back as a younger sprinter would.

Remember when one of the SF Races where almost everybody in the race at the 300m mark was tied. I need to find that race next. My VCR missed it back in the day.

I realize that I am not putting videos in this thread from 1995 but that is not stopping me from having fun.:adoration:

I received an email yesterday from someone asking about 96 and 16…here are a couple of links I put in the email.

Easier accel leads to Ben’s Incredible 10m split later in the race .81?
Charlie mentioned that had he gone out faster that he would not have had that VMax 10m split.

Here are some splits done from film? for the 1996 OLY 100m Final

Nobody in 1996 was holding off a 12+ m/s Bailey.

Considering this interesting stat, does anyone know what Ben’s best individual 10m segments (and reaction) add up to?

It’s been awhile since I looked at it but maybe 9.69.

.03 for the R/T
.01 for the 10-20m?
.02 .83 - .81
.01 80-90 Rome vs. Seoul
.03 90-100 Rome vs. Seoul

His top speed in the Goodwill games in 86 (same year) on a very poor surface was probably right up there as well.

And yeah, all on inferior surfaces, and inferior shoes, than today’s.

MJ destroying the field which included CA HS Phenom Henry Thomas in lane 1 who doesn’t looked to warmed-up at all. These ain’t HS or college kids you’re racing anymore. He was right next to the gun and had the best R/T to it by far.

Looking it up on Amazon and reading the first few pages was worth it. If you have not already taken a look I suggest you do. Laughing is such great medicine. Read the reviews for more laughs.

This is an interesting take 28 years later by the same woman who wrote not so many nice things in 1988.
