Nobel Prize for Al Gore

Just because Al is wealthy, it shouldn’t distract you from the message. I’m sure he runs energy star in his house. Focus on the message, not Al (at the moment). We’ll get to Al later.

Here is a better way of sizing this up.

The main message I’m taking from all the information emerging from the science community is not whether I am causing climate change or whether it’s just a natural cycle; the main message is that I (and you) are wasting precious natural resources and we better stop doing that because they are finite.

Whether that will help slow the rate of climate change has yet to be determined, but being more responsible and frugal in the way we live has got to be a benefit for us and for our descendants. For that reason alone - and in part because Gore helped publicise and explain much of the scientific community’s fears - I’m more aware of how I’m living, how I use water, electricity etc. So that’s the take-home message.

As for Gore winning the Peace prize, I suppose down the line there will be more wars fought over natural resources - like access to clean drinking water - but if as a global community we can do something to conserve those precious resources, then may some of the violence can be averted and, if so, good on Al Gore and everyone else who plays a role in bringing the world to its senses.

Be careful what you buy into, this video is based on data from the scientific community (which is great), but its also 4 years old. Several points in this film have already been re-examined (for example ice core drillings).

Nice contrast post.

Man we are taking such bad care of Earth we are making the ice caps on Mars melt I bet.

STILL DIDNT DESERVE A NOBEL PEACE PRIZE THOUGH.

How dumb do you have to be to have not heard of global warming before Al gore went on his crusade. He did it for money and self promotion. Hey Al try cutting down your own wastes down first before you go around telling other people too! I like that Bush video btw.

if you ask me it’s a hell of a lot easier to find scientific litterature saying that man is the cause than to find the opposit. It took me a few minutes to find the second article. I don’t know much about weather and climate but after reading through the second article I must say I still believe we are the cause…

You may want to read what the best climatologists in the world have to say. Look up some of the guys from MIT and other places.

There is not a consensus. The “data” that links human interaction with global warming is all generated from computer models. Garbage in, garbage out. The earth is warming now. It has warmed and cooled in a cyclic fashion for millions of years. It is very difficult to test the “greenhouse effect”, because we can’t actually physically model all earth systems on a scale that would mean anything, so we instead rely on computer models. The most sophisticated models run on the fastest computers can’t accurately predict weather a month in advance any better than the farmers almanac…so I’d have to say that these models, while interesting, are not conclusive.
