Here is the link to my 400m today, any advice would be greatly appreciated as it seems I am doing something wrong…

forgot to mention I am in lane 5

Looked good until that last 50. TRy to relax a lil more.

gutsy run, might be a pacing issue, 1st 350 looked really good and relaxed .
What is your PB?
How was the 1st 200 v your 200 PB?

I thought you were going to smoke them at first because the gap you opened up was so big, but then they were all a lot closer at the end. You might have gone out too fast at the start, which could have caused you to have trouble keeping up the speed at the finish.

I was thinking the same thing. The initial acceleration was very good-good to really get out, but, perhaps, he should have gotten into his float/coast on the back stretch a bit sooner. That is he might have carried out the acceleration just a tad too far and maybe pushed the first 200 too hard.

One other smaller detail, though I doubt it had a huge impact and maybe it’s not even an issue at all-the block setting. The front block MIGHT be a little too close to the line but if it is, probably not by too much.

thanks for all the comments guys I really appreciate it. Yea I’ve become so frustrated with my 400m lately that I am going to try and go in the opposite direction next race. I am purposely going to try and negative split off a 25 first 200m… I’m going to watch the video again and see if I can get more accurate splits

I think the splits were 23.9 and 35.9… so the first 200m was 1.6 seconds slower than my best 200m.

Here is my 800m

Something else to consider is that your issue MIGHT not be anything execution related but rather the kind of work you did leading up to the meet.

Perhaps whatever you did in training did not permit you to be able to hold on well enough in the last 50m or so.

How does the 23.9 compare to your 200 pr?

he says above his PR is 22.3.

Ok, thanks. I glanced quickly at his comment thinking he was giving the differential between the two splits. No doubt he meant 25.9 for the second 200m.

If he is, indeed, a full 1.6 seconds under his pr for the 200 I would likely look at his recent training as that gap seems to be very doable.
