you’re not in gpp anymore, but your coach is not giving full recoveries for speed work, nor inserting tempo sessions for recovery purposes…
could result in injury,
less than potential pb’s,
and less fun.
I know its hard to go against a coach (how is his temperment?) but you need to assess your goals and discern how you are going to get there.
If you feel ok with whats happening then hang in there.
I realize that there are a ton of problems with the workouts, but I have virtually no control over anything. If I want to compete, I have to do his workouts, and his workouts only.
He thinks he is a track guru and knows everything about training, and gets mad when you question any of his training ideas.
Basically, I have to train his way until april and then I can train the proper way for 9 months.
We had no training this week because of Presidents day weekend (no school from friday-wednesday)
On thursday, we worked on some field event drills. The coach put me in high jump because I have the highest vertical on the track team, but I had no idea what I was doing. I cleared 5’2, but the coach says I am doing a cannon ball over it and I come almost to a dead stop before I jump.
We had a meet friday and I didn’t clear 5 feet which was the lowest setting. I need to practice this, because I understand it is 100% technical, and I just run and jump over it. I was actually pretty mad because I got 5’2 the first day I ever tried, and couldn’t even clear 5 the next day.
The 100m, it was also my first time ever competing in it. They didn’t tell us our times, but I finished like 4th out of 8 which is alright I guess. It was my first time ever coming out of blocks really and I didn’t wear spikes.
The last event I ran was the 4x400, which went pretty well also.
After the first meet, I realize that my best chance at anything for my team is high jump, and I suck at it now. We don’t really have anyone that can do it, and I am the best jumper on the team, so I have to do it. I am going to go up to the school today and practice it a little.
Only 2 kids get to be in each event from our school, and I am not fast enough for the 100, 200, or 400…so it looks like I will be in the relays or high jump (hopefully). People say that if I got my form down I could get over six feet. Who knows…
