Lateral Start Video Analysis

I suffer from the same “disease”… :frowning:

Still need to know if stepping over is valid for the start.

Thanks,

I asked that question before and Charlie give the following answer: stepping over is something that increases as you move further away from the blocks and then remains constant.

then drive the knees? cues would be helpful.

Its been awhile since I stole a base, but it seems like you are too mechanical in your running. Find some tapes of Ricky Henderson. No one had a better first step (I think he still is the best at 40 something).

You need to get a video done from the front at about the angle of the mound to first to let people see what the left leg and hip are doing. It looks like you are trying to raise your center of gravity too quickly when you should be dropping the left hip just before you drive off of it on the crossover step. This will get you going forward instead of up and get you to 2nd faster. You shouldn’t upright until you’re deciding to slide of go to third. The trip is only 27m, that should be an acceleration the whole way.

where is the video ?
the link isn´t right,
there´s another link ?

mjroth,

So you’re telling me that in the video, the back leg, the crossover leg has to start at a lower angle so that I drive forward and not upward. Am I correct in the leg that I’m speaking of and the technique that you are speaking of?
It seems to me that dropping the center of gravity and then running takes time. Maybe starting at a lower angle? Your thoughts.

Thanks,

I find arms cues more beneficial at the start. Driving hard with the arms and a good range of motion.

cheers,
Chris

me too - should we start a support group?!

(very well described by the way)

be sure !!
