i don’t think its the fruits…normally at work i’ve been getting very tired in the middle of the day. so what i do now is only eat p&f meals w/ fruits or veges from morning until workout and i’ve felt much better.
I’ve gotten the “ear thing” as well and always wondered where it came from, only I don’t really go deaf, but I hear this buzz every once in a while and I’m scared I’ll go deaf… But in my case I would doubt it’s a matter of low sugar intake, because I eat a lot of fruits (and those contain a lot of sugar right?) and I DO eat sweets every once in a while. Also, it couldn’t be an ear drum problem, because my hearing is excellent (according to doctors) so there could be no problem there.
Hmmmm…
Stef- I believe the ear thing is more of a particular instance of low blood sugar, not the result of a general condition. It usually happens when I work out and don’t eat immediately afterwards, or if I just blatantly don’t eat enough. I posted about this a year ago, I’ll see if I can find it.
Speedkills- I do quite a lot of tempo-themed work, but sort of on top of everything else… My current diet is kind of an experiment and I half expected for my performance to drop, but so far I have actually been performing better the past couple weeks. It seems counterintuitive… I hope it doesn’t backfire on me and get me injured!
I woke up this morning when my roommate’s alarm went off really early, feel back asleep, then woke up again around 6 or 7 and was wide awake
-AM 20 min. low-intensity bike, 10 min. core circuit
11:30 prac:
-WU, no sprint drills or hurdle drills
-tons of walk-throughs and jog-throughs with a jav, several run-throughs of approach
-throw drills with pins, then a lot of one step and 3-step throws
break for lunch
upper lift:
-4-exercise superset: chins to lats, 90s rest, top half incline press to 1+1/4 DB bench, 90s rest. Improvement in 3, consistent on lats. chins: 2x4, 2x3. lats: 4x6@90. incline: 1x6@40k, 1x6@45, 2x4@45. DB bench: 2x8@50, 2x6@50.
-incline lateral raises 3x10@10, paired with
-cuban presses: 1x10@20k, 1x10@15, 1x10@12
shake mmmmmmmmm , low blood sugar attack (if that is what it is and I suspect i am right)
-PM 30 min. easy elliptical
My heart rate is a little high (~96 bpm) and I feel a little broken down- not sick, but maybe a bit vulnerable to it, so I am going to do my best to slooow myself down. Midterm week + learning that I have to pay for ALL of my own food over spring break= STRESS.
I am not invincible. I am not invincible. I can get sick and injured like a normal person. repeat repeat repeat
You know sometimes even just taking 10 minutes and slowing yourself the hell down and taking some deep breaths can help. I’m sure you could manage to barter some massage from some of the male athletes on your team as well. Get creative!!
Man I wish I could “barter message” out of some of the girls on my team, but come to think of it, there’s only a couple that are burly enough to give me a decent one, and I don’t think I’d want them rubbin’ up on my anyway
AM prac:
-WU, sprint drills
-4x sprint-float-sprint (45m-20-30) 4 min. between. Felt very fast
PM hurdles:
-short WU, hurdle drills
-2x1,2x2, 2x3. feels very jarring and just not as fluid I think I am heel-striking which is bad
went to the trainer and rolled out my back on the biofoam roller, then iced my back and put lower legs in the whirpool for about 12 min. @51-52 degrees.
I feel like I ate a lot today… ugh. There was some kind of vegan nut loaf at the dining hall which was actually really good and I ate a lot of it. Pretty soon I am going to go on the elliptical for 40 min. then 20 min. of pool.
On a VERY positive note, I got the internship I applied for at a representative’s office in DC The minimum committmet is 2 full days a week, so even if I work 3 or 4 days I can still have time to train, and time to work at my high school job which has a store there. And of course probably go back and forth to home a lot
LJ work, hard lower lift
toooooo busy to make a detailed post
Who’s office, just curious, as I do some work for the local D triple C.
I’m interning for rep. frank, im really excited. It’ll be 3 or 4 days a week, so i can still have time to train and make $$.
in north carolina now after a two day bus trip.
competed today on stiff, sore legs… it could’ve been worse. im tooooo exhausted to write anything detailed, i will catch up later.
between thursday night and all day friday i was driving for about 13 hours. I competed on saturday in 100 hurdles and 200. my right hamstring was pretty tight and sore from this week’s workload and there was a VERY strong headwind down the straight so it was nothing fantastic, but it could have been much worse. Hurdled 16.4 FAT- my PR is 15.1 ht, 15.4 FAT while injured, and last year i opened at 15.8 ht. my first 5 hurdles were faster than any 55 i ran in indoor, then i clipped one and the last few were a little rough. My coach was pleased though so maybe i will get back in his good graces.
also ran the 200- by then the wind had picked up and i was just sort of slow, so i ran about 2.5 seconds off my PR.
as for today, just did a warmup and a pushup/crunch circuit. i managed to get to a grocery store and get fruit and veggies and peanut butter and some other little things, so i can stop eating stupid bread again. i have been eating like crazy and it needs to get under control. I also went off the pill, we’ll see what happens with that.
hamstring is 95% today.
pretty long day, and i still have to lift
10am prac:
-full WU, hurdle drills, sprint drills
-accel series: things like accels out of hops and bounds and whatnot, a bunch of repeats x10m
-multijump series, did 4 excercises x4, then did 4 extra reps of 4 hurdle hops+ jump into the pit
-multithrow: BL forward and accelerate 6 pushes
I think that was it…
4pm prac:
-full WU, short hurdle drills, short sprint drills
-hurdle technique specific drills on my own, then 2x1, 2x2, 2x3 hurdles in spikes out of blocks, hurdles in and down
-medball power circuit of core stuff, throws, and some jumps- 30s on, 30s off x6 exercises; did the whole thing twice through
I still have a short lift tonight.
I am starting to get headaches because one of the girls in my room snores and i forgot to bring my sleeping mask with the sounds, so i have a lot of trouble sleeping at night. I kick her so that she wakes up and she turns over and in 10 min. it starts over again… plus she is a thrower so i have this little sliver of the bed to work with…
I am actually in kind of a bad mood. The sprinters did this horrible workout this morning- 30 min. run followed by 15x300, and then came back in the afternoon for ANOTHER workout. I miss running soooo much, I want to run the 400 hurdles really badly and I just wish the stupid program didn’t insist on separating the events so strictly. If I want to be a runner again, I am not allowed to train for jumping or be a multi. It is depressing as hell, I am starting to flip out at random moments and come really close to tears in the middle of practice because I want to run so much and it’s so hard to just do goddamn 10m accels and jumps and shit and feel myself getting out of shape.
I wish I could transfer to a normal program with a normal coach and have the ability to run and hurdle and jump… I knew I shouldn’t have come here but I came because it’s where I was “supposed” to go given my options, and now I am stuck and depressed
screw everything else and just run
bracing myself for a total nervous collapse
long day
am prac in the cold and wind:
-full WU, hurdle drills, sprint drills
-extended multijumps, got some shin pain
lift:
-snatch-squats 4x6
-core circuit including a bunch of stuff i can’t even remember now
pm prac:
started raining- we were supposed to run, but coaches wussed out so we went right to the gym
-long core circuit including pushups, chins, side-ups, back extensions, hanging garhammer, lunges, and russian twists; all 12 reps with extra weight, 3 sets
-1 hour spinning class in place of running- its as tough as you want to make it because you choose the resistance, and i made it hard
exhausted. I have not slept since i have been here. nearly cried this morning and have been having headaches all day… felt a bit better in the afternoon and now i am flipping out again. is this girl ever quiet for one fucking second?? apparently not, even in sleep
You’re beginning to exhibit serious signs of depression. Take care of yourself. How bad is life really? You’re in college and you’re healthy. Seen the news lately?..
I have a lot of reasons to be down but it is normally my habit to fight through things. I have just been extra-sensitive the past few days because I have literally been getting only a few hours of sleep a night and having 4 workouts a day. I’m arranging to get my own bed so I am already in a better mood
AM lift: still raining, so we went straight to the gym
-snatch-pulls 6x6
-single arm presses paired with hammer curls
-rotator cuff paired with trap raises
PM session will be speed endurance and a lower lift.
I feel pretty good, my coach bought me a meal replacement shake with oatmeal after spinning yesterday and that thing did a lot for potential soreness and fatigue. I have been icing my shins and ankle a lot more, so now my only problem is some lingering fatigue from lack of sleep. Weather is clearing up- kind of wet but at least it’s warm.
You know anything about Northeastern? I have a volleyball player who has interest from them. They want her to walk on for the first year but seeing that it’s so far from SA she doesn’t know what she’ll do, especially without a scholarship for the first year. Cheerio!!
Northeastern is strong in athletics- I can only speak for track, but as far as that goes they are one of the best teams in the NE area. I live pretty close to northeastern and its right in the boston area which is pretty fun. My school always sends people there. The only negative story I have heard was of an excellent runner from my league who was offered a full scholarship, got injured her senior spring, and had to go somewhere else because they took her money away. Kinda sucks, but maybe D1 is different.
PM session: weather cleared up, warm and sunny
-full WU, sprint drills, 3x50m buildups
-3x full LJ approach on the track
-throws standing progression, then 8-12 throws alternating light and standard shots. Made a major breakthrough with my block leg woooooo
-SPEED ENDURANCE yesssssssssssss… 2x(3x200)- 3 min. between reps, 5 min, between sets. Coach told me to go 32-36, but I went 28,29,31 and 31,32,31. There was a VERY strong wind right into the straight- we ran in both directions, so some of the splits were a little slow.
-multijumps: hopping series working on flat-foot contacts and shin+ankle strength.
-6x100 easy striders
We were supposed to do a lower lift, but I was pretty much the only one who was up for it and excited, so naturally I got screwed and we went back to the hotel.
-20 min. easy bike to loosen up around 10pm
I have been trying to eat appropriately for the increased work, which I feel has been making me eat too much sometimes. I panic about it periodically, but I really don’t want to get injured and waste all the money i spent to come here. I had my carb+protein shake after our run today as well as after lifting which is something i haven’t done before. I have iced my shins several times today, I will probably have to do a shin massage sometime this week before competing this weekend… ouchhh
long day in the sun
10am prac:
-full WU, short sprint drills, long hurdle drills
-hurdle jog-overs
-2x1, 2x2, 2x3, 1x1 hurdles out of blocks, standard height, moved in 1 footstep. I was trying to just work on quickness and being agressive and for about half of them I was clipping the first hurdle and the other half I was really quick.
-HJ drills, run-throughs, 5 full-approach jumps
-30 min. general strength circuit w/medballs
We skipped our lift again which was disappointing, but I wasn’t getting ANY pop on my jumps and we are competing for the next two days so maybe it’s just as well. I got pretty sunburned but it will be a tan soon enough
4pm prac:
-short WU
-jav drills, lots of short approach throws for an hour and a half
-quick shot progression, 9 full throws alternating light and standard shots
did not jump well- jumping into headwind. after 6 hours of practice in the sun yesterday i’m not that surprised.
sometimes there are just days when even if i warm up extra i just stay stiff and don’t feel properly warm no matter what i do. today was like that… i did easy biking for 35 min. to try to loosen up for HJ, hurdles, and jav tommorow.
my appetite is raging out of control and its disgusting
