Today I felt better than I have for a week or more and so I did –
BP 185x6 was top set and the muscles were willing but the CNS said it’ll cost ya. So I stopped there. Did one set of shrugs afterward and it felt good to have weight in my hands.
One thing that sucks about my age, fitness and level is that I lose the training effect very quickly. The little I did tonight was harder than I’d have thought based on what I was doing a short time ago.
Even if I don’t have much that day I need to train every day that I have it in me.
Have been sick and still am. Have been loading up on everything under the sun and staying inside. Staying inside isn’t much help really since it’s so damn cold since the power bill was too high so there is no heat. I was about to use a mad face but the new mad emoticon sucks.
My roomate is very unhappy w/ my coaching so some work is needed there as well.
Still sickisb but today I finally felt well enough to lift. As our new research shows  mental fatigue affects perceived effort and I was extra weak. So much so I won’t put the numbers. But at least I did something.
Warm tomorrow. Just realized that means I will get outside a lot and walk in the Arboritum either Thursday or Friday.
Blues dance classes all weekend so I’m wiped. The tendon isn’t that bad though. I suspect the boatload of fish oil I’ve been taking has something to do with that.
I’ll count today’s 2+ mile walk as training since I had to navigate carefully through snow and ice in some places. Tendon feeling it majorly though. Too much walking in this weather (-2C).
Just a reminder to myself that I cannot sit for hours at a time. The tendon is feeling it majorly after playing poker for 4+ hours. At home even when I’m parked in front of the computer I get up often, plus my chair allows plenty of leg movement. Sitting still was a very bad thing. It’s much worse than the position I’m in while driving because then I can extend the leg.
Walked faster and with more ease today than any time since the fall. Just sort of felt energized and was able to do it.
Tonight’s lift showed how horribly I’ve lagged this winter. Ugh. It is hopefully going to get warmer at some point so I’ll be able to get good sessions in. The cold does not agree with me at all.
The good news is I found a grip for close grip bench that hits the tris hard but doesn’t bother my shoulder and rediscovered something about extensions that I had forgotten so those will be improving as well.
GCBP 155x8 for 2 sets. The second slowed a lot at the end.
BP 185x5 for one ugly set. Must reduce weight since I’ve clearly lost strength
.
Extensions were iso holds sort of, more like slow partials for 15 seconds w/ 15. Can do more but easing into the iso thing which is better for now.
RDLs 160 x4 and it felt a lot heavier.
Press w/ DBs 40x8 and this is both when I felt my body had switched on for the first time in a long time and when I was out of gas.
Walked before and after. Tendon was OK but feeling it after. Not bad, just trained hard.
Overall I feel great afterward.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, I tried orange juice with vanilla whey PWO. Was just like an Orange Julius.
CGBP 155x6 and 165x6 – strong sets
BP 165x6 for 2 sets and was feeling cooked so went to
Extensions 15 lbs for 15 second holds but felt just a little iffy somehow so stopped there
RDLs 135x6x2 felt wiped CNS wise after this but did
Press 95x6 felt strong but nervous system was done
Rode a bike a little today for the first time in 5 months. Knee feels okay but a little tender so I’ll bag tonight’s lift which I should forgo anyway since I’m doing contact tomorrow. Haven’t done CI in a few months so we’ll see how that goes.
It’s amazing how much difference fish oil makes with the tendon swelling/stiffness. I was very stiff yesterday and realized I have forgotten to take my fish oil.
Major session of Contact Improv training on Sunday (6 hours). Just loosening up for that really.
BP 155x5 for 2 weak sets
RDL 165x5 for one and done – felt too weak
Press 115x3 for 2 shaky sets
extensions 25 x 10 Heard crackling but felt no clunking
Tried juggling for the first time in 6 months. Last year it was so not happening – could barely do 4 clubs which I normally do very easily. I went by MIT juggling club and tried to throw a little. Good old muscle memory kicked in and I did 4 quite easily. I doubt I’ll go down that rabbit hole again but it was nice to see some more evidence of recuperation.
Threw just a little today. It’s clear that unless things change I can’t improve above where I was. I’m not going through all that again. If my fitness and energy improve I may take a shot later this summer but for now it’s counterproductive to practice. I still have the monkey on my back about qualifying 6 clubs or flashing 7 and I think I could possibly do it but I need every element and some aren’t in place yet.
I seem to be moving better. This of course makes increased mobility training possible.
In light of which I carried an air conditioner up 3 flights and then did it again with another one. That cooked me so I just did extensions but did PR weight with those.
