This workout wasn’t that tough. I ran it at about 4:50-5:00 mile pace, which I guess is a bit too slow for this kind of interval work. I myself think it’s a little stupid to do a 3:20 second 1000 and then get 3:20 seconds work before doing the next one.

workout:
last night I was very busy throwing up and generally (w?)retching my guts out. I think I got a stomouch flue. But today I knew that i had to work sticks. So I came to the track and did 2 run throughs with Mr. Topps, a very fast black man, and did them perfectly. (top 8 is this friday and I WILL be prepared for it)

Nothing. I was A. coming off of an illness and, B. I had a big meet coming up so I didn’t want to tire myself out for the next day. My brother got my flue, and didn’t run an 800 he could have handily won.

4x1: Danm those guys. the day I show up to do sticks pays off for me and only me. I was the only person who thought it important to work sticks. “We have ours perfect anyway” chun said, he ran John over… “I’ll do it perfect” said John, who missed Reggies hand his first 2 tries. I got the stick and ran us to a pretty good 4th place. Final time: 45.74
800: I ran a tactical race and won this one handily. An alternate kept wanting to cut in front of me early in the race, so I gave him a good amount of my right elbow. (his was kind of fleshy vs. my bony-yet-muscular mandable so he must have gotten a small bruise.) After the race I realize that I had almost lost that race to some freak kicker. If I hadn’t thrown in that last little bit he would have ate me up like the rest of the pack. (props to that kicker from Burlingame)
4x400: Final time: 3:36.12 (WOOT!) Place: 2nd (F*CK!!!) Our second two powerfull 400 runners showed some pretty good speed in the open 4 both running 53 second times. I wished they had saved that for the end, but I had no complaints, they ran 53.8 and 54.2 in the 4x4. Come the anchor leg we were in 4th place. I will forever remember saying, “I’m sorry” midrace to the two guys ahead of me as I pushed between them in the first 80 meters. I probably could have waited until after the turn, but I was in a hurry to start racing with the first place runner. I wanted to win, danmit. I (only) ran a 52.2 and we settled for second place.

Workout: I went apeshit on the mileage today. My parents wanted to go for a bike ride and I wanted to run, so I went 12-13 miles with them. It was crazy. I tootled around the first 6 miles, but ran the 6 back as hard as I could pound em.

Thursday Alisal Dual Meet

4x1: Went off w/out a hitch. We dominated totally. Coach told me to run to win so I probably split about 13 seconds my anchor leg.
1600: My first mile ever. I was generally pleased with the race, excluding Alisal’s shitty 5 min milers that kept surging in front, only to fall baaaack, pulling a few NMC runners on the way. We went out at a pedestrian pace, 70 and 76 2:26 first 800. But I managed to blaze a 2:19 second 800 (73, 66) for a total time of 4:43. All I need now is a 100m PR
800: Cruised to an easy first 2:08. Alisal has a pretty decent half mile squad, I hope my bro can fend them off at MBL.

800: Coach told Nate (our stud miler) to take the race out in 56 seconds, I was supposed to trail him. I cruised the first 100, and before I knew it, it was too late to pull away from the pack w/nate. I split 58. I pounded a great last 300 and pulled away from 4th to second. I now have an open 800 pr of 1:58.9.
4x4: This race was a pushover. We all ran very poorly and just dominated the crap out of the field. Our FS team would have placed 2nd if they had ran with us. my split 52.2 (out of blocks). Final Time: 3:31

It’s been too long since I’ve posted here, so I don’t really want to go workout by workout for what I’ve done since the 5th, so I’ll post a summary.

Frosh 800m soph record
Fifth all time North County 800m
Tomorrow is the big day, I am in the finals in a tight pack. I could potentially go to state. I said the same things to myself after making ccs finals… Who knows, I may run 1:53 tomorrow.
–
After running that race I feel I have a real good understanding of what it takes to be a serious quality half-miler. I cam in with frosh-soph experience thinking, oh yeah I have a kick! I can blow by 2:05 and 2:00 half milers like they’re standing still, but those guys showed me. We went out in 58 proly 60 for myself, and I just couldn’t kick it up into a higher gear. I’m taking out my next 800 in 55 seconds. It worked for me before.
It’s been a great season 2:12.5 to 1:56.5 is quite an improvment. If I improve like that again I’ll be running a few seconds faster than the world record.
