Yes i do i see him twice a week, so far ineffective. My only solution is that im adapting to the new heel lift i am wearing on my orthotics which is giving me all these problems, cuase i got a shorter leg
Give us as much detail as you can about the history of this problem and the steps you have taken up to this point, including any previous injuries, even if they are seemingly unrelated.
Ange Coon has a leg length discrepency. Maybe she can lend some insights.
You’re wearing a heel lift in addition to the orthotic? Was the heel lift prescribed or made by the same person who made your orthotic? Was the orthotic for that foot altered to accommodate the heel lift?
I wish we could get Mike Forgrave to jump into this discussion.
Sorry, I didn’t make my self clear enough perhaps, but more or less this is what I meant. Pool work is, of course, fine, but because sometimes can’t be controlled very easily -either from lack of equipment, or experience on the isokinetic part- it can cause a problem -“too heavy a load too early”, as you say.
Before making any attempts to strengthen the area, even via this “mild” resistance in the pool, I believe other aspects need to be addressed (e.g., stretching) -depending on the severity of the situation, of course…
Let me know what you think!
Thanks!
Just my personal experience on heel support, you have to increase the height -if necessary- very progressively and over a long time.
In order to see whether a certain correction is effective, or not, you should wait for some time especially if differences are small; unless some correction is so much needed, that a positive difference is immediately apparent -ask Keke…
Lastly, over-correction is not a good long-term practice.
Please, feel free to comment on the above, as this is just my experience on the issue.
Hope it helps a bit though!
i was prescribed by my ART specialist who saw all these problems, saw my X-ray a pelvis tilt 10mm is the shortness of the other leg. He recommended a heel lift. Prior to all this i got orthotics a year before knowing i had a short leg. I started sports seriously near final months that was 17 turning 18, i am now 19 halfway till 20. its a 6mm heel lift, i wear on my right orthotic, i’m thinking its adapting and giving me all these pain problems. I rested 2 weeks and it feels worse, i went to track practice today and it was killer felt way worse, i gave up and acknowledged i won’t run fast and the season is over. Fuck man what a waste of life.
You hit it right on the head. Pool work can be confusing and detrimental when not done right. This is where it’s nice to have a Therapist or Athletic Trainer to make sure that you do everything correctly. Your concerns are understandably legitimate.
As for strengthening the area, I agree with you to a degree. I, personally, am an agressive Athletic Trainer. I like to get muscle injuries strengthened as quick as possible. The longer the muscle stays inactive, the more strength is lost and scar tissue builds. But, if the muscle is not ready for strengthening, it is simply not ready and should not be done. In most cases, there is some form of low resistance exercise that can be done (in water or on land). The biggest exception to this is surgery where a muscle has been reattached or repaired. In these cases, light stretching is needed to increase ROM before strengthening.
I believe that our ideas on the topic are virtually the same.
Not to take anything away from your ART person, but have you consulted anyone else? Maybe a podiatrist or orthopedist. This is obviously a tricky case and it’s hard for us to give advice in this kind of setting. Needless to say, your problem is more complicated than the usual trouble shooting we do here.
If it makes you feel better, I myself have done very little consistent training this past year while I concentrated on clearing up my chronic soft tissue problems. It’s a frustrating pain in the ass.
its frsutrating indeed, ART man says i’m a project. My coach says my body responds differently unlike any of the atheletes he has trained. I adapt differently its all confusing and sparatic, geez two years with these injuries im gonna be plagued with this shit for life, man how am i to run world class?
