gay ran 19.41

gay ripped off the 19.41 200m straight record. as i originally suspected, he passed 150m at 14.41, 100m at 9.88.

Any video?

Can anyone put into context the time that Tommie Smith ran and the conditions( track, training, rehab, etc…) under which he did so?
Sometimes I’m quite amazed with what the old school cats did.

Tommie ran his on a cinder track is all I know.

Bolt’s 150m record:
50m 5.64
100m 9.90
150m 14.36

Tyson’s 200m record:
50m 5.69
100m 9.88
150m 14.41
200m 19.41

Interestingly, they both had 8.72 for the 50m to 150m segment of their runs.

unbelievable…just think about the track, clothing, advanced footwear, supplements etc that athletes have today compared with smiths era.

Timmie Smith ran 19.5 ht. It could have been 19.74 or even 19.90, who knows… and it was with +1.9w…

Was he hobbling a bit at the end when the video was cutting away?

What would Gay’s 150 split and 200 time have been with Bolt’s 1.1 tail wind from last years race? Gay ran into a -.4

Bolt ran in the rain and on a colder day, so it’s difficult to compare.

charlie never liked this, but ill take a stab at it. deceleration in 50m segments from 50m onwards went 4.20, 4.52, 5.00. my optimism says turn last 50 to 4.84 so that chips it to 19.25. factor in 1.4 wind differential which may honour about 0.07 then it goes to 19.18. and the 150 would go to 14.34

amazing how he just separated himself from kim

Good and Thanks. It’s fast enough to keep Bolt’s effort honest

Fantastic run. Start looked like he got Drilled in the 1st 10m.
would love to see the entire run from that Side camera, how great did that footage look! stunning

Oh the talks of another super 200 takes me back to these days:

This weekends race in Manchester was colder than last year even though there was no rain.

At the time of Bolt’s run last year the temperature in Manchester was 10 degrees Celsius. At the time of Gay’s run this year it was 13.
