how is sat scheduled…hills sprints and then squats/bench right after or is there a few hours in between.
my guess is depending on how its scheduled…its either lactic acid training or because the squats/bench are at 65% with chains, maybe a dynamic weights day?
am i way off cause i’m still new to the whole speed/tempo scheme?
Well Westside says DE is both dynamic obviously and also lactic training to an extent with 30 second rest periods. So the running and lifting match up I guess.
some of the research on local and general CNS loading will not be published because it will not help with osteoporosis and diabetes. Modern strength research is dying because funding information for a small percentage of people is not a good investment.
Also remember that one can unload the upperbody to lesson the fatigue of the lowerbody somewhat eventhough the neuropeptides are general (blood flow will circulate with the same profile).
This is like the slavery isn’t dead article and toleration work may help with this football player if he is getting the massage and thermotherapy.
Research back in 1967 with Bergstrom and Hultman showed that muscle glycogen resynthesis was local! Meaning that runners only could refuel their legs because the upperbody did not increase the enzyme because the stress was too low(distance runners of course). You can only increase what you stressed! CNS fatigue is similar because local muscle performance will have rates from local stress but the neuromuscular system is general because the brain chemistry of muscle and nerves is general and local. Still some CNS fatigue can be localized from structural damage.
Charlie talked about CNS fatigue being general but little investigation if any will every happen in the next 5 years. I will be very busy next week with the Beast to Monster article.
on tuesday’s workout, wouldn’t it be better to do weights before tempo or is there a few hours in between tempo and weights?
i know poliquin said about david boston regarding conditioning that he rather focus on speed and get a guy down to like a 4.3 because later in the game he’ll still be faster than the guys that started out running a 4.5. now, i don’t necessarily agree with that and i could be misreading what poliquin said…but how do you train for speed as well as have the ability to be fresh in the 4th quarter and where is it (or where will it be) in this program?
weights are after tempo. its only some dynamic upper body work. this is only a small phase but you dont see any conditioning work in it? look harder, there is more than you think.
ok i got it…we have thurs, fri, sat as all conditioning days. thurs and fri are what clemson considers fatigue monitoring days but i would guess that they are there to add volume and increase conditioning as well.
i’m interested in your numbers…squat, dead, bench, 40 etc and what your goals are (i know to get stronger, faster, etc) but can you be more specific. do you play college ball?
squat - dont max, monday did 330lbs for 4 sets of reps (5 and under).
deadlift - heaviest i have gone so far this year is a 4 rep max. 385lbs, double overhand grip, no wraps.
bench - had shoulder surgery last june. i’m not in a hurry to be benching heavy right now. when i do dynamic work and have to use a percent of my max, i just estimate my max at around 290lbs right now, although that is just where i think i am right now if i were to attempt a max.
fastest 40 to date - 4.58
vertical - not sure, i recently touched 10’7" not vert, took two walk up steps, then jumped (i’m 6’3")
more specific goals - double 450 in the squat by camp (august). run 4.50 by camp. kill everyone.
