David,
Good job! I remember the time I was a Sr. in High School and I was practicing starts by myself on the dirt track a month before the Track Season started (in Jan.) Anyhow, another Sr. was jogging around the school w/ his buddy when he saw me and asked if he could race me from out of the blocks so I went to get some blocks for him and the race was on. The race was 50y. When I got to 50y I looked back and saw that this kid was only three feet (just shy of a meter) behind me. After, the race I tried to recruit him to come out for the track team b/c no one was ever near me by the 40y mark but he said he was training for a bodybuilding comp. and would not have the time to come out. The Next year this kid won the Teen USA Champs than a few years later Won the Mr. USA Comp. The kids name was Dennis Newman. At the time, Dennis didn’t do any sprints and was about 200+lbs . Your story reminds me of him. Me, I went on to set records without him but it didn’t matter much anyway b/c a few years later some twins by the name of Alvin and Calvin or was it Calvin and Alvin broke almost every record at our High school and every meet record they went to. Hard to believe that that Dream Season of theirs was 10 yrs ago.
