Nice return to form for Madeline Pape in the women’s 800m. Madeline had an ordinary Aussie domestic summer season in 09/10 beaten in 2-03 at the nationals. So the 2-01.88 has her back on track and hopefullya sub 2-01 is not far away for her to push for a spot at the Comm Games.

Did she have a “B” qualifier prior to nationals? Apparently one is required before the selectors will even consider the athlete. The incentive criteria in the selection process needs to be reviewed without a doubt - AA need to balance the (hypothetical) cash flows that are purported to arise from elites competing domestically and the ability for those same athletes to be competitive internationally, which will raise the profile of the sport. Unfortunately the current format allows for neither.

Look at the coach. If she does an “A” she will be picked. Or, do they stick by their words/email I have that the athlete will not be picked no matter what, and that they need to prepare for the next season. Lets see what happens

//youtu.be/ZZnOSZI31RU

Look at his reaction when he sees the time (4:55). He sure wasn’t happy with 9.86.

I noticed Allen Johnson is still hurdling. How old is he? Its been 14 years since Atlanta. He’s gotta be close to 40.

That guy has some serious longevity :slight_smile:

I wonder what he was shooting for. Gay ran the first 100 of his straight 200 in 9.88 and that was into a slight wind. It didn’t look like Bolt was taking it easy in this race either…

I suspect if Madeline Pope ran a sub 2-00 by August or a series of times that put in her genuine contention for a CG medal then she would be selected.

I thought Asafa Powell was World Leading with 9.71…

     hes still loaded up from most likely some hard runnin workouts that are gearin/prepping him to run a sick 300. these sprint workout(prob borderline int.temp/special end.) combined with the 100 and 200s hell have run will leave his strides lookin faster and more balls out but shorter than they'd be in say august september.him to

maybe its just the camera or im crazy but it looks like bolt has lost muscle mass

looked the same to me, maybe even thicker in the legs.

Thats weird, cuz thats exactly where i thought it looked like he lost the most. His calves especially but also his thighs looked slighter than before. Even his arms and shoulders didnt look as defined as usual. I could just be nit-picking but i thought he looked “softer”

on a little side note, would losing a bit of muscle mass have any major importance when talking about 100m times? My legs lose a bit when I stop squatting during in season, then I run all my PBs, whereas when my legs were a little bigger, times werent as good.

i seen slight more bulk in the legs as well on the shoulders. most notably in the mid feb 45.86 400m. most notably the calves before he was gettin in the blocks for that race. then with this last 9.86 100m i only noticed it after the race when slowing down, same thing considerable calf bulk

Sure Bolt was deceived by the 9.86, however Daegu’s track is damn slow!
Frater just ran 9.94w in Doha, where he was beaten by Powell by 0.13sec. In Daegu, Frater was 0.29sec behind Bolt!
Looking for an incredible time in Shanghai’s 200m.
