Sorry i should have illustrated my sentence with examples:

Marita Koch (47.60 at 400m) was usually leading Marlies Göhr (no reference at 400m) at 60m but Göhr usually passed Koch in the last 40m to win the 100m. Example Berlin’83.

Irina Privalova (48.47 relay at 400m) was usually leading Merlene Ottey (50.5 relay) at 60m but Ottey usually passed Privalova in the last 40m to win the 100m. Example Stuttgart’93.

Sanya Richards (48.70 at 400m) was usually leading Veronica Campbell (52.24i at 400m) at 60m but Campbell usually passed Richards in the last 40m to win the 100m. Example Shanghai’07.

I could go on and on. Franno surely notice that Sherone last straight during 200m was faster than Sanya the two times they met (i’m discounting the 3rd in 2008 because Sherone wasn’t herself in that race). So by extention, 200m specific SE is different than 400m specific SE.

I wasn’t doubting you at all, I have heard the Koch/ Gohr reference before, thanks for the other good examples.

So…why the 400’s?
