Tuesday, January 25, 2011

OTTAWA – The future of Canadian track and field has been identified as Athletics Canada announced today the athletes who have been selected for the Team 2016 Olympic Development Program (ODP). The program is designated to create a development pathway leading to sustainable high performance success in 2016 and beyond.

“Identifying the best young athletes who we believe can succeed in 2016 and beyond extends and widens our high performance pathway leading to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro”, explains Athletics Canada’s Head Coach Alex Gardiner. Gardiner adds, “Program director Carla Nicholls and National Centre coach colleagues have nominated a squad of athletes who have met international benchmarks for their age; these athletes are training with accomplished coaches in good environments. This is our next wave and it’s a strong one!”

Anyone know much about Desai’s group?

I am surprised that Katie Reid isn’t on the list, as she set a Canadian Junior Championship record in the 400m as a 16 year last year.
