corrected ages for NZ team which was U20 so gives a better perspective.

Good to see Andrea Miller back racing. This was her first race since Delhi.

KK,

How does the 200 time compare? Didn’t this athlete run a short while ago in 200?

ESTI which athlete are you referring to please?

Hi John: Your Kiwi juniors lost on average only 1-second per athlete against an Aussie senior team which won gold at Delhi Com Games (Offereins who ran first leg in Brisbane was dropped for the relay final in Delhi, replaced by Kevin Moore. But in Brisbane the last three men were the same as per Delhi final. The change was on first leg where Offereins came in for Joel MIlburn who is returning from injury and has yet to race this summer.
This NZ team should be properly funded, brought into camp occasionally, sent to the US for some relay experience. You have the makings of an outstanding unit. They just need a bit of pressure from others (older or younger) in the lead-up to, say, Glasgow Comm Games. That’s what I would be targetting in the medium range.

no argument from me, add to that group the following

Matthew Robinson DOB 19 Jul 1991 ran 47.78 last March
Tyler Collings DOB 26 Nov 1993 ran 48.31 last April
Thomas Symes DOB 19 April 1994 ran 48.09 in December
Scott Burch DOB 3 May 1991 ran 48.52 last March

and you have a pretty good squad to develop. Time will tell.

Yep kk we have targetted teams to Glasgow. I am in charge of this gig, hopefully we can pull it together. Still a very very long way to go with some teams but this 4x4 group is young and has plenty of depth. Hopefully by the end of the summer we will have 3/4 men running in the 46’s which gives us a realistic chance to go at least sub 3 mins 5s. However, 4x4 in the Commonwealth is a tough event with some damn good teams! Jamaica, UK, Australia, Nigeria…

Gofast, how is David Ambler running these days? Is he still in the US?

Hi Neospeed. Yeah he is still in the US, going nowhere. 10.50s his fastest time last year, 10.41s the year before with a 2.0 tail. 10.35s in 12 degrees the year before with me…I better stop going on about it. He is in a program where some guys have run real fast so I guess the coach believes he is doing the right thing, I guess just not the right thing for Dave. Very much a lean slightly forward running technique with major focus on frequency as well as high intensity repeatability work in training methods. Can’t say that’s how I would do it but ah well, not my athlete…

Well if he knows what’s good for him, he should get back to NZ before it’s too late! I remember he was really taking it up to the best aussie sprinters a couple of years ago.

Yeah I figure he will see out his days at Florida State then it may be all over for him from what I’ve heard. Shame, think he could have been something pretty decent considering he was running 10.35s off only about 18 months work…

Gofast,
so is Alex Jordan off to Baylor as planned?

http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/sport/5157135/Jordan-to-race-in-Europe-soon

mind you that would stuff up him moving up to 800m as the experts on NZRun say is what he should do.

No he is staying in NZ now. Scholarship at Baylor seemed to fall through. Has been based in Nelson for the last few months with the earthquake in ChCh and no track and is now going to be based in Wellington for maybe the next 12 months till we get a track back in ChCh…then hopefully we can get things going properly again…

Interesting. This is exactly how Walter Dix runs. Would be interesting to know weather Dix’ technique is a result of this trainig or weather Dix’ success inspired the coach to try to make everyone run like him.

BTW: Kieran Showler-Davis from the UK now runs for FSU as well. His 200m PB is 20.75. He ran 22.46 in Fayetteville last weekend.

a track in ChCh, mate that’s gotta be what 5 years away?

John, track should be in ChCh in about 12 months. Lots of positive discussions going on and all parties keen with $$ ready to spend. Fingers crossed it will work.

Yeah also very little upper body weights too. Looks like KSD hasn’t opened so well indoors robin1, he’d be hoping that improves quickly!

gofast, what do you put his improvement down to over those 18 months? I’m curious to know how you structured his program during that time.
Cheers.

Yeah sure. He came in with a pretty small strength background so we worked on that quite intensively getting up to 117.5kg power clean at 69kg which was encouraging. Plenty of focus on plyos and also on the technical model. We just started to focus on hip strength near the end but he had a very long way to go from being maxed out in strength.

He didn’t know how to push out of the start when we began. He used to run with high frequency at the start and die at the end but with a different technical focus and some small amounts of max vel and speed endurance work introduced meant the second half of his race started to become his strength.
