Asafa Powell for Oz

Yeah that’s pretty strange that Herb Elliott and the former President of the Athletics Australia Board could make riches in mining but couldn’t do the same for athletics in Australia! Granted though, that there’s no demand from China for Australian Athletics. :P.

I know Asafa is coming at his own will, and that’s great for us, but he might even be given these in-kind transfers from a particular hotel ifself – its pretty good advertising to say the World’s fastest man stayed at your place, right?

Yes ok… dumb question maybe…
But the way he “collapsed” in the final 30 meters, i can’t really understand how that happened… I know he had some difficulties in his preparation and all…

Before some people are going to yell and scream i’m a Asafa hater… No i’m not i’m a HUGE fan of the guy…

Mental readiness is mostly physical. When you’re at your best, mental stuff tends to fall away.

Although I do believe that lack of proper preparation was the true cause, i think he probably did give up a bit after gay passed him - look at what he did to atkins in the rounds - if you’re the wr holder and rpetty much undefeated for a few years 2nd place isnt much consolation, as anything below first isnt worth it.

he did give up when gay passed him, Powell even admitted he gave up. the rounds are rounds and no more, doesn’t matter what you do in the rounds.
the reason Gay passed Powell is because Powell’s speed end. was not where it needed to be due to his lack of races or ability to practice at these speeds before the meet(due to injury). Powell’s lack of confidence came from him knowing he was not in to shape having only run 9.90 to Gay’s 9.84 into a headwind.
while it may seem to some that his speed end. is good if he is running 9.90, look at what he ran when he got the 6 races in (9.74). so clearly, if he had more races (ie. sprinting at race speed) he would have been good to go both physically and psychologically.
