Your opinion on these workouts

These are a few workouts my coach is having me and others do, what is your opinion of them for sprinters in the age range of me, (15).

3x5x50m /quick rest inbetween reps, 5 mins between sets.

30x20m /quick rest between reps (really tough workout)

12x200m at 80%, 1-2 mins rest

2x5x60m /same rest as 3x5x50m

All except the 200s are at 100% max effort.

my opinion is the recovery for the speed work is not enough. and the 200m work is harsh.

Is your coach coming from a background of a different sport. It reminds me of an old coach of mine who came from the army as a PTI. Very good for getting fit, but I didn’t get quicker. I would argue the recovery is too short, and tht from that recovery you won’t be able to complete those runs at 100%!!

Exactly, but he said something about these workouts changing as we move outdoors, I dunno… But ya it should be like 5 mins rest per REP.

Thats a tough workout!

It’s usually more after that too, so we do the 200s plus few 100s or 150s or maybe some 30-50m sprints. Apparently workouts will change drastically in a couple weeks, and tempo that long is completely eliminated

Just hav to wait and see…

So if you are running 22.0 then these 200s are all in 27.5 right?

After reading the short to long thread and the times people have run off of this type of volume and rest (albeit over 60) this might be good for this time of the season. It ought to improve the ATP-PC capacity.

Well im only 15 so running 22 isnt happening, plus for this team we dont have access to a indoor track (my other team we do) so it becomes running the straight and running it back, therefore times will drastically slow down due to 2x accelerations + a stop after 100m, my 200m is edging a 23 but in indoor a 24.7 was my best, though last year I had a 27 in indoor  and turned that into a 24 in outdoor, just not my time during indoor…
