A NEW community sports ground in Winchester has been awarded £12,500 after making it to the final shortlist of 12 winning projects nationwide.
The money was donated to Winchester University by Norwich Union Community Sports Fund for equipment at its new sports ground.
Facilities at the Bar End site in Winchester will include an Olympic standard 400m eight-lane athletics track, an all-weather hockey and general sports pitch, floodlighting and an extended pavilion.
Building work is due to be completed by early next year. Tommy Geddes, Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Winchester said: “The additional funding will help with purchasing specialist sports equipment such as javelins, hurdles, discus and hammers which will enable users to get the best from the facilities provided.”
The University is working with Winchester City Council to complete the project.
