I went on Flotrack last night and watched Willie Perry race Dwight Thomas at Florida relays earlier this year over 200m. I was very impressed by Perry and wanted to learn a little mroe about him. I read his bio on the University of Florida site and know a little about him. But I wondered if anyone here could go into more detail in terms of his training etc, as I understand he is coached by Mike Holloway, but little has been posted about his methods here. I know I’m the guy that wants to learn what everyone does in training, but I am very keen to learn more about the methods used in various colleges in the US. Thanks
One thing that needs to be kept in mind when viewing college programmes is that the NCAA sets time limits on face to face contact. Whilst I think there is much that can be learned from them I don’t think they represent best practice.
There are regulations in how much time a coach can spend with his athletes?? What is the purpose of this? To make sure it doesn’t affect academic progress?
I think there is an MH article or two at the mfathletic site. I know they have some videotapes/dvds put out by him
Perry came from a town(Gamewell/Lenoir NC area) less than an hour away from where I used to coach. I think he was trained in h.s. mostly by his club coach.
Yes, a 20 hour limitation per week to make sure guys are not crushed academically. Coaches also not allowed to hold practices in the days leading up to nor the week or so of finals exams.
Competitions counts as 3 hours, though, no matter if they are all day affairs or not-of course most are.
Thanks for the feedback Pioneer. I never heard of mfathletic, I will google it now though and see what comes up!!
check out sprinting article for MH in the “training zone”.
