PRAGUE, July 4 (AFP) - South Korea’s Kim Un Yong beatNorway’s Gerhard Heiberg for the position ofvice-president of the International Olympic Committee inFriday’s vote.
Kim succeeds Australia’s Kevan Gosper whose four-yearmandate has expired. He won 55 votes to Heiberg’s 44.
Heiberg, seen as IOC president Jacques Rogge’s man,later won the vote as an ordinary member of the IOCexecutive board, replacing China’s He Zhenliang.
He beat Carlos Nuzman of Brazil 59 to 41 in the fourthround of voting after Singapore’s Ng Ser Miang, China’sYu Zaiqing and Ireland’s Patrick Hickey were eliminated.
Guinea’s Alpha Ibrahim Diallo beat Egypt’s MounirSabet 58 to 40 for the seat on the board vacated byZimbabwe’s Tommy Sithole following his paid appointmentas the IOC’s Director of International Relations.
