When should I lift?

Starting April 1, I have track meets every Tuesday until the end of may. When should I do my lifting after the meets or the day before. Lifting consists of usually three or four lifts and low reps usualy no more than five and no more than 5 sets.

Charlie which brings up a good point. When is training after a meet nessary as in the case of a highschool or college athlete with meets every week and very little time to build up, or is it nessary at all.
