volume of SE for 400m

How many training units shoulds be devoted to SE in a training week for elite 400m sprinters? ( general prep)

Heres a outline

2 x SE @ 100%
1x SE @ 80-85%

Monday pool

Tuesday (grass, no bends, no spikes)
5-10min recovery
3x400 @80%
2x300 @85%

Wednesday (grass, no bends, no spikes)
full recovery
4x40 max
box jumps 3s10r
4x300 max

Thursday( grass,no bends, no spikes)

10x200 tempo 75%

Friday rest

Saturday ( mondo track, spikes)
full recovery
2x500 max
2x300 max

Sunday

10x200 tempo 75%

is this early season?? now in the season? I remember reading Percy Duncan say from Speed Trap and CFTS that either run at 75 or 95 %, everything else makes your legs into wood… something along those lines.

I wouldn’t do any Special Endurance in the GPP but that period doesn’t last long for developed athletes and SE can start quite early. As for the weekly set-up, it depends on whether the plan is from short to long or long to short.
As most plans go from long to short, you’d prob start with 2 SE sessions per week, with 1 speed and 1 Strength Endurance session (running As for a longer distance/time) as follows:
M- SE (ie 2x300m), W- S, F- SE (ie 2x600m), Sat- Str End ( 80, 100m running As at walking pace forward) with tempo T, Th.
Short to long programs have so many more variables that you’d have to give a very specific example to come up with a plan.

The plan is based more towards short to long since this athlete can run very fast 300s ( 32s) yet cannot maintain such quality with 350s or 400s. Currrently i am undecided on weather to use the following plans

( short to long)
a) Wk 1 300- wk 2 325-wk 4 350 wk 5 375 all @ 100%

or

( long to short)
b) Wk 1,2,3 600s @ 85%, wk 4,5,6 500s@ 90% ,

What are your thoughts?

Perhaps a plan similar to the one I listed above would work, but, first, we need to know how many weeks are available for the prep period. Will this run till late Oct?

with a 100m athlete, training short to long, SE can be added in the second phase of training after the indoor season.

With 400m athletes, again training short to long, at what point have you added the endurance work? Are SE (1) and SE (2) added simultaneously?

This prep phase will run till december, peaking will aimed for late April.
