Promising triple-jumper Stefan Tseng shows his technique to three-time Olympic champion Victor Saneev at the sports school yesterday. The Georgian, 61, is here for a week-long coaching stint at the invitation of his former trainee, the Singapore Sports School’s (SSP) jumps coach, Dr Valeri Obidko.
Yesterday, Saneev, who won the first of three straight triple-jump Olympic golds for the former Soviet Union in 1968, held his first session with 10 students.
He said of national record-holder Stefan: ‘He has a good physique for triple-jumping and is strong for his age.’
Stefan, 16, emerged as the Republic’s rising star this year when he broke the 19-year-old triple-jump national record (15.52m) at the July’s Asean Track and Field Championships in Thailand.
Saneev said of national record-holder Stefan: ‘He has a good physique for triple-jumping and is strong for his age.’ [World Number 2 for those born in 1990]
