Hey Everyone, I am looking for some suggestions for making the best of my training while I recover from a shoulder injury.
I recently dislocated my shoulder, and now I am in a very awkward external rotation brace for 4-6 weeks, and if my labrum doesn’t improve, then after that I might need surgery, and another 4-6 weeks in a sling I think. Anyways, I was wondering what everyone thought about what I should be doing for training at this time.
Weight training wise, for upper body I guess all I can realistically do is train my good side as best I can. As for lower body, squats obviously will not work, so I was thinking basic stuff like leg press, hamstring curls, GHRs, calf raises, anything else? Would this be a good time to incorporate something like iso holds?
Also, I will check if it is okay with the doc, but my gym has a safety squat bar, so maybe that is an option later down the road. Overall, there seems to be many variations in the weight room…
What has me worried is the lack of any speed/power work. Sprinting(or even tempo for that matter) in this brace seems impossible, and basically all plyos involve a forward arm swing, even subconciously. Any advice here?
I do have a cheap EMS unit, it’s not the greatest, but better than nothing. At this time, I am real nervous about detraining, so I was considering buying a good one. Do you guys think it would be worth it?
Any help would be awesome
