Timing one's self in a workout.

I train alone and therefore do not have anyone available to time myself for any given workout. I usually hold a stopwatch or even worse my mobile phone in my hand to time myself. My question is should i not worry about timing myself to gauge progress and can this lead to bad habits as it is bloody hard to simultaneously operate my stopwatch/phone while running all out??:eek:

What phase of training are you in?

If you are in gpp it may be OK but I wouldn’t make it a habit as this really is difficult to be relaxed and focused on cues. You don’t need to time yourself every session, every so often I would say get someone out there to time you if possible. I train alone as well, I’ve handtimed myself a couple times but find it’s not the best method-- simply because you are focusing on holding and starting/stopping the watch.
