How late into the season would it be important to continue doing tempo work for a 400m runner? How about a 200 or a 100 runner? I know it aids in recovery, but is there a point where speed work becomes the main focus and tempo work should take a back seat?
You need to keep up that tempo work until you drop off the volume of speed work and focus on high-intensity. It should stay proportional to what you are doing. It all depends on your racing schedule.
dlive-
if you are in championship season and you are focusing on high intensity should you still use tempo work as a recovery day inbetween the high intensity/speed work days?
fluke,
Charlie included Tempo in his 10-day Taper for Peak Races. From CFTS, Tempo sessions (at low volume) were done as close to 2 days before competition.
Tempo is easy and really doesn’t take much out of you, so there’s no need to reduce it until just before a major competition.
you will find that doing tempo between your hard days will actually make you feel fresher the next speed session. I would rather do tempo than sit around and get stale. Chicken soup.
